I need help finding a chip.

First off, I'm new here, and I think this is a great place for help. So now that that is out of the way, here is my question.

I have never worked on an engine before (putting performance mods on ect..) but I want to get more horsepower/torque from my 2001 5.4L. I heard chips will increase the power, and is easy to install.

Can someone tell me if it is easy and fast to install one? I would also appreciate a link to a chip for my F150, since I wouldn't know where to start. I just want something with a little punch, that is relativly cheap.

Thanks alot,
Pat.

Welcome to the site. It's easy and fast, in some cases you just plug in a programmer and you're done in a few minutes. You need to talk to Mike Troyer. Troyer Performance is one of the Supporting vendors of this site and members get a discount with him. Here is his contact information:

Hi Pat,

Welcome to F-150 Online!

First, forget trying to find "cheap" performance parts - that never works well, and will only shortcut your results at best - at worst, harm your vehicle. So forget trying to shop for any performance part based on price - that is always a mistake.

Second - yes, a *properly* done performance tune is indeed the single best bang for the buck modification you can make for these vehicles - but don't think that a performance tune alone is going to turn that 2.5-3 ton truck into a rocketship, as that won't happen - it's simply the single best bang for the buck, as nothing else will provide as much performance improvement for the same or less cost - hence the term "best bang for the buck."

I don't recommend using a "chip" per se - what I recommend using is a flash type device, so you can easily upload the performance tuning by a simple plug-n-play connection to your vehicle's OBD-II port, which is located under the dash on the driver side, just to the right of your right knee. That type of device provides a much better results and far more features, including diagnostic capabilities, high-speed datalogging, email update capability, etc., but most importantly does not interfere with any diagnostic tools or code scanners, etc., like all chips do.

As a registered member of this web site, you get a special discount on our Troyer Performance custom tuning products, and it is our *custom* tuning that will get you the best results by far - so for that information, please give us a call at our number listed below & we'll be happy to help you.

We've specialized in performance tuning & improving the overall performance of the F-150 platform longer than anyone else, 14 years - so most F-150 owners come to us for their performance needs. These message boards are packed with posts from people just like you who have plunked down their hard-earned money and rave about the results of our tuning.

In general, for more info on this all you need to do is simply spend some of your own time reading here - all the info you could possibly want is already here - and make use of the SEARCH feature too, that is precisely what it's here for, so that anyone can instantly look up & read posts on any topic, 24 hrs a day. That works far better & much quicker than waiting for someone to come back to type out the same info they've already posted 100 times - with as popular as this web site is, every single day we get numerous people all asking the exact same thing - "what's the best" - so that has been asked & answered literally thousands of times, so all you need to do is to read the posts already here. Just FYI so you'll know!

Our phone number is listed below for your convenience, just give us a call and our staff will be happy to go over this with you - there is also a URL for our web site listed below as well, so you can take a look around. What I recommend using is the XCalibrator 2, as that will provide the best combination of results & features - and this is a product you only want to buy once for each vehicle. The XCalibrator 2 can also be reprogrammed to work on any 1996-2006 Ford Motor Company vehicle, if you trade your truck in, etc. - just FYI.

I hope that info helps, & we look forward to hearing from you!

Best of luck with your truck,
