Hi Jackal,

It was good to get a chance to talk with you at length about all of this, & I think you'll enjoy the new performance package setup you just went with!

Have fun & talk to you soon,

One more question Mike, can I run my new custom tune before I get the e-fans and pulleys on? This way, I can go ahead and sell my 1715 on the forums. Thanks!!!

Hi again.

I say go ahead and begin the selling process.

All you will see is a slightly higher idle rpm due to the custom tuning tweak that compensates for your pulley's impact on the alternator rpm.

You are good to go! Get those tools out!

You made the right decision. Have fun and good luck!

BTW: what was the final verdict on those P/S and other temps issue?

Cheers
Vic

Hey man, I can't wait to open er up. I'll be gettin started on the upper intake tomorrow / Sat. The verdict on the P/S and tranny temps is BOGUS!!! The e-fans move (I believe) 12x the amount of air at idle than the mech. fan does so it's just not possible.

Hi Jackal,

Yes, you sure can run those tunes before you get the e-fans & underdrives, etc. installed - with those mods, that won't be a problem.

Sweeeet...now the custom tunes come with the tire size already punched in right? No way to adjust w/o having you make the adjustments in the tune? I put the actual size on the custom sheets in several places so I'm sure you'll see em. Hahaha. Don't remember if I already asked you that.

...and that 87 octane "Performance" tune you said you were going to put on there...is that still "tow-safe"? Does the crank pully come with a replacement bolt since they are "torque to yield" or should I go ahead and pick one up?

FYI, I faxed the sheets over this AM.

Well, I got the upper intake off, what a pain...but fun. My EGR ports were only blocked about 30%, and EASILY came right out. The carbon was pretty soft and kinda wet near the opening of the ports. I credit this to the Superchips tuning and Seafoam every 8 - 10K mi. The crazy thing is though, I haven't removed the intake elbow from the TB in easily 20K mi. and my TB, elbow, and even the intake manifold are SPOTLESS. I remember the last time I pulled it, I was shocked how nasty it was in there, (elbow was black) and didn't want to spray all the gunk down the intake. Wonder what's keeping it sooooo clean? Hey, I'm not complaining. Now to go back to the parts dept. for an EGR gasket.

BTW, the ceramic coated WMS looks nice!!! I can't believe it took me this long to finally drop the bucks. I went with this over the AF1 because I liked the ceramic coating and the fact that I can run my K&N in the modified airbox. I chopped the fender side airbox where it starts to taper down so it works as a heat shield. This should help keep the velocity up as opposed to the 4" gutted factory elbow.

Hi again, Jackal!

Yup - the pulley set comes with a brand new bolt. Follow the instructions to the letter and you will be fine.

I would be hesitant to consider a 'perf' tune to be 'tow-safe'. If you really want a tow-safe tune, you should specify one, regardless of octane level.. There is advice on this elswhere - do a Search. Perhaps if you wanted to just tow a lawnmower, but anything approaching rated towing specs, don't risk it.

Cheers
Vic

Oh, I know, but he mentioned a performance 87 octane tune for my Xcal2, but I forgot to ask if he was going to do the tow-safe or all out.

The port / polish went well, I went through (2) Dremel high-speed cutters and about (6) 80 grit cylinders, and (6) 120 grit cylinders. Man what a pain!!! It look like 4 - 5 hours of continuous grinding / sanding and I had the flex shaft attachement. I bet I wore out my new Dremel and flex attachement in one day. It's almost not enough for the job, IMO, but boy did it open up the TB, especially that elbow. I stopped at 120 grit, but I did hit it with 00 steel wool afterwards. I don't think anyhting finer would have done much for it...the areas I did were a lot smoother than the factory surface. I also tossed on the WMS Velocity Tube (ceramic coated) when I got everything bolted back up. I don't know if it's the TB job, WMS, both, or if it's all in my head, but it seems to have a vary obvious difference in throttle response. The first trip out, without even resetting the computer, I loaded up the dirtbikes in the rear, fired up the AC, and drove up to my cousin's place about an hour away. I normally would have expected to use 1/4 tank each way without the AC running, but I didn't use that much round trip. I also didn't have to floor it or down shift at any time. It's as if 3/4 throttle is now about 1/2 throttle if that makes any sense. I can't wait for the rest of the goodies to show up.

BTW, I got a new sig.

Sorry to keep bringing this thread up, as some of the topics discussed aren't particularly specific to PCM tuning, but I figure this is the best way to do it for those following the thread, and for future searches.

Anyway, I just checked my TPS. Read about 1.02 vdc. After tinkering for a few minutes we're reading .989 - .99 dead nuts on.

Hey Mike, just wondered if you were able to get to my tune over the holiday weekend...no hurry, just wonderin'.

Could you "ballpark" my flywheel / rear wheel horse power after the new mods and tune? Base was 220, say 10 for intake and 10 for exhaust, 3 for port / polish, then 25 for fans / pullies. Now, I haven't seen any #'s on the custom tunes, but if the "max performance" is 10% over the "tow-safe" which was 24 RWHP I believe, and SCT is approx. 50% over THAT, then say...38 RWHP??? I know these numbers simply don't add up like that, but you'd think they'd all compliment each other making even MORE ponies...??? I just want to know where I am so I know where to shoot. I'd like to damn near max out my stock fuel system, then plan for an upgrade and next step in performance. Thanks!!!
