X2 tune suggestions
X2 tune suggestions
I'm filling out my paper work for my X2 & was wondering what 3 tunes everyone recomends or have chosen for thiers? I was thinking 87 perf., 87 tow, & 93 perf.?
I got just that, 87 perf, 87 tow and 93 perf. When talking to Troyer, I asked about just using the stock tuning for towing, boy, did I learn a lot. They stressed the importance of a tow safe program, due to many technical reasons, high exhaust gas temps, etc. The Troyer tow program is probably the way to go, over the stock.
I'm in California and we only got 91 at the pump here. So I was thinking when I get around to a X2 this summer to have:
Stock tuning to use for 87 octane towing
Custom 87 Performance for everyday use
Custom 91 Towing for most of my towing needs
Custom 91 Performance
04Triton5.4L I think you need a 93 Custom towing tuning instead of 87 Custom tow.

Just ordered my X2 yesterday
At Troyers suggestion, I went with:
87 tow
91 tow
91 performance
I don't see much 93 octane in my area, so I went with the 91.
My truck is about a 90%/10% daily driver/tower.
They suggested the 87 tune in case, for some reason, any "bad" 91 gas gets in the tank and causes problems.
Can't wait for it to get here!

Hi 04Triton54,
If you like, please feel free to call us to go over your needs in proper detail, to determine which set of 3 different tunes will actually do the best job for you.
The choices you have listed sounds just fine. I'd say just give thought to how much weight you'll be pulling, for how much distance, and over what kind of terrain - the more weight, the longer distance, and the less flat terrain you'll be traveling over, then the more benefit from going with our premium gas towing tune, for example. Don't get me wrong, you can still do all of that with our 87 octane towing tunes, we're just thinking of you having the most available power if the weight being towed & conditions during towing are going to be more extreme.
Otherwise, the selection you have made sounds just fine, and will work very well for you.
