Question Will an Xcalibrator help with...

The symptoms I have:

1. Poor throttle response, feels like the truck is stuck in sand.

2. Hard starts, engine will sputter and die. Then takes a good 15 seconds of cranking to get it started. Sometimes won't start at all, I will have to wait about 2-3 minutes before it will start again.

3. When I attempt to pass & the revs hit 3000, its like the truck hits a brick wall. The truck stops accelerating but the engine runs up to like 5000 rpm for a second or two then it drops back to 2800 then starts to accelerate again.

If I purchase TP Excalibrator, will this thing take car of the above? Meaning, will it program my computer with the most up to date Ford info, or does it completely replace the Ford program with one done up by Mike T?

If I take the truck in for anything, does the car dealer automatically plug it into the diagnostic? Does the lastest/greatest info automatically get downloaded if they do?

Thanks

Hi KC,
Sounds to me like you have some issues that need to be dealt with pryor to getting tuning done. Some of your problems may be something other than the PCM...Kevin

2 and 3 sound like they need to be taken care of under warranty.

I can tell you that number 1 will be a huge difference. Its like you have a whole new truck.

Hi KC,

I'd say that our custom tuning will probably take care of everything *except* the hard starting - I have no idea what's going on there, and that is *not* normal for these trucks even running on the stock factory program. So unless you are trying to give it gas when you start it, which you cannot do, I'd say your dealership service department needs to take a look at that hard starting issue.

The throttle lag is easily taken care of - and in your passing situation, most likely that is simply a combination of the torque management combined with torque converter lockup characteristics combined at a certain speed/load point at work there, and should be helped by our tuning. The lag in throttle response is taken care of in our tuning, and it will have better TQ lockup characteristics as well - but a mechanical problem is not going to be solved by tuning, and if that vehicle is as hard to start as you describe, and you are NOT giving it any throttle at all while cranking the engine, then that needs to be looked at under warranty.

A number of these trucks are having failures of the electronic throttle bodies, and that may have something to do with it - or may not. But I would take it in for service and have them look at that starting issue - and if you like, you can talk with them about the passing scenario, too - but I suspect the passing thing is just the torque reduction combined with the TQ lockup calibration at a particular speed/load configuration at work, and that is usually helped by our tuning.

Thanks for the info Mike. As soon as the AF fixes the problem I'm having with my pay (AF Finance seems to have a fetish with F'ing up people's pay, they owe me almost $2000), I plan on contacting you to get my Xcalibrator.

Hi KC,

You're more than welcome, & sorry to hear about your current AF pay issues - US has always had an occasional penchant for screwing up military pay info, sometimes taking months on end to get settled - hope that works out properly for you, and sooner rather than later!
