Which tunes?

I've been reading up on tuners for the last couple weeks preparing to place my order with troyerperformance.com. I've been keeping track of the most popular tunes and I'm having trouble deciding which tunes are right for my truck. Here is a little info on the rig before we get started:

1999 F-150 4X4
Cat back
K&N Air filter with poor mans intake
1700 watt audio system
287/75/16 tires
off road/tow packages

So here is my problem. I use my truck as a daily driver to get to school and back. Now that fishing season is almost here, I haul a 12' aluminum boat in the bed along with the gear needed to prey on helpless fish. I also will be making random trips to the lumber yard every couple of weeks or so. About once a month I load up the truck to go camping for a few days or so.

From what I've understood, it is harmful to the truck to tow/haul in the max performance tune. Is this correct? In this case, would be smart to get a 87/9 octane tow and max performance tune? I would be able to switch from the max performance to the haul tune for the times when I do haul then back to max performance when the job is complete.

As for the third tune, I was thinking 93 octane max performance. What is the 'seat of the pants' feel between a lower octane max performance and a higher octane max performance?

If there are any other tunes which would fit the bill, please let me know as I am open to all suggestions at this point.

One last question before I turn it over to you fellers, is it safe to off road in the max performance tune? If not, which is the correct tune?

May I suggest you go with the following?

1. 87 octane towing compatible
2. 93 octane towing compatible
3. 93 octane maximum performance (non towing compatible)

I think you will be more than pleased with these choices..

Hi dye,

All of this is easily answered by simply calling us - when each person orders their custom tuning, we go over all of that with them at that time. We go over how they are using their vehicle, the mods done to it (if any), how it;s used, what part of the country, if there is towing, etc., etc., to come up with the combination of tunes that will do the best job for each individual vehicle owner's needs.

Marc's suggestions of doing towing-compatible tunes for 87 and 93, and then a Max Performance 93 tune is one of the most common configurations, for example.

Yes, you can use a Max Performance tune to go off-roading, generally speaking - though we'll probably want to discuss exactly what *you* mean by your version of "off road," too.

Also, you can use our performance tuning and still load the vehicle up to it's maximum **ON-BOARD** weight ratings - if you need to haul a refrigerator in the bed, you can still do that, for example. It's *towing* you cannot do on our "performance" tunes specifically. So in general, you still maintain full on-board load capacity with our performance tuning, but for *towing*, you must have a towing-compatible tune.

That will give you some quick FYI info for now, and then to go over this specifically and decide on which tunes we're going to set you up with, we go over that when you call in your order - that's part of that process, is helping you decide which types of tunes will best serve *your* specific needs.

I don’t do a lot of heavy towing; these are my tunes

1. 87-octane performance (not towing compatible)
2. 93-octane tow-preferred
3. 93-octane max-performance (not towing compatible)

If by chance I have 87-octane in the tank and I must tow I can install my stock program
