Sct xcalibrator
Not just any cable...
It's serial, and there is an in-line power supply.
My advice: Spend the money. Get the cable, the software and the support.
You spent $ on your Xcal and $$$$$ on your truck. Now complaining about $60???
You can spend more on plain ol' component video cables to watch movies!
'Nuff said.
Cheers

the 9100 cable has a RS232-TTL converter built in the cable, so it's not that easy. The 9300 cable is a serial cable with a DB9 on one end and an HD15 connector on the other end. It also has a 9vDC power adapter with 350mah soldiered to the 15 pin connector. It's not somthing you can but at compusa, but it could be built. Believe me, we aren't in the cable business but we do want to provide a complete solution for customers that want it.

Hello Kmad,
First - no, you cannot just go anywhere else and buy a "cheap" cable, that's an excellent way to cause a problem and ruin the Xcalibrator, and maybe even blow the port in your PC. There are pinout & power considerations that affect that cost - it's not just a crappola Chinese slave-labor $6-$10 serial cable. Additionally, there are development costs for the software part of the email update capability kit as well - just FYI.
Second - If you bought your Xcalibrator from us here at Troyer Performance, and you are a registered member here at F-150 Online, your cost on the email update capability is less, so you might want to give us a call on this.
Good luck!

Just out of curiousity...
Everyone keeps talking about getting software with their e-mail update kit, which leads me to believe that they must have been provided with a CD or Floppy disk in their original packaging with this software on it, right?
Well, I did not get any software with my kit, and was just curious if I should have, or if this is something that is expected to be downloaded from the net?
Again, this is just out of curiousity, because I haven't needed the software, and don't suspect I will for sometime. (I'm saving up for rims and tires, so I won't be buying any more performance mods anytime soon. hehehe)

Hi kbldawg,
The manufacturer only sends us the special & optional programming cable - the actual software that is also required must be downloaded from their web site. They do NOT provide that to us on a CD that we can just include with the package.
The email update software isn't needed unless a tuning change actually needs to be done - which is rare on these new vehicles. So if a change is required, *we* do it, and we handle that on a case-by-case basis.
