SCT 9100 vs Dodge 5.9 Dakota

I know this is a computor chips section, but wanted to say that the SCT 9100 by Troyer is THE BOMB.

Just like it says, he wants my lane while sittin at the light, he gives me the look and motions to get in front (when it goes green). From the looks, the truck is lowered, wide tires and "traction bars" WOW!!! I give the "NO" head shake and give it a little rev, so he can hear the sound of a custom exhaust in his window. I'm in a lifted 4x4 with 33" tires----he snickers, nods the go ahead and we wait. I do want the lane he's in as i want to turn left but just can't do it from my lane (outside right). It's a little wet out and am worried about spinning. The light turns and I roll into it----were off.
When I let off (at the next light) because the light is red, he is EVEN WITH ME!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH!!!!!
I signal to him that he may get over--out of politness of course. He just nods and mouths the words THANK YOU.

Wouldn't call it a kill but maybe "EARNED RESPECT" .

Mike, this 9100 rocks.

Me and my little 5.0L 4x4 thank you
Randy

Hi Randy,

So if I understand you correctly, with your lifted 4x4 33" tire'd 1996 5.0 F-150, you were able to stay dead even with his 2WD lowered & traction bar'd 5.9 (360 cubic inch) Dakota - if that is the correct understanding - excellent!

The Dakota is of course a significantly lighter truck (to say the least), has better gearing stock (usually 3.91 or so) and with a 5.9 liter V8 in it, it should have blown a 5.0 F-150 lifted 4WD with 33" tires off the road - by a rather wide margin. It shouldn't have been even remotely close.

So if I understand the scenario correctly - I'd agree that while it's not a "kill" per se, just staying even close with him is *very* impressive.

Glad to hear of your achievement & thanks for your post!

YOUR TUNE!! TOWING AT THAT!!

YES SIR.
you have it correct. Towing tune installed. I leave that one installed all the time because I tow just about every weekend. We only went about 200-300 yards (short distance between lights) but we were even.

It was wet so I couldn't just matt it. It will smoke those tires (33") on dry pavement if I do that and always spins them on the 1-2 shift @ WOT. If its a hot day out it won't spin much. I've done just about every bolt-on without tearing into engine or rearend. Bought a set of roller rockers and new pushrods---that's next and good for about 20 more. I'm planning a dyno trip soon, theres one here in Chesapeake, we need A/F ratios and HP#s.

yes, it surprised me too!!!

Just like you read here and in the Lightning forum(s)

IT'S ALL IN THE TUNE....AND YOURS ROCKS!!!

Thanks again Mike.

Oh, I'll be giving you a call soon, need some changes to the PERFORMANCE tune--I'm going racing.
AND THEN WE CAN PLAY WITH THE LIGHTNING!!!! Got permission to buy one today.

Randy

Hey Randy haven't talked to you in awhile...nice "stay with"

I've been really busy lately with my business so I haven't been on here in awhile, but I'm looking at getting some e-fans (finally) and I need to talk to Mike about my tune. I changed my tires. Anyways, good to talk to ya again Randy.

Hi Randy,

You did that with the towing tune, eh? Yep, that's impressive, as usually the performance tune will have about 8-10 more HP ion those 5.0's.

Of course, you're absolutely right in that we need to get that truck completely datalogged, to see just what it's doing - I'd say go ahead and install the roller rockers & pushrods, & then let's datalog. I completely re-wrote our datalogging instructions since we did your tune some time ago, so when you get a chance, give us a call so I can go over all the details with you & shoot you out a new copy of those current instructions, OK? You'll need to datalog a lot more than just A/F's, but luckily, since yours is a 1996 it's OBD-II, so you can get the A/F's on the dyno while simultaneously datalogging everything else thru the OBD-II port with the appropriate equipment. And be prepared in that a lot of dyno facilities cannot datalog anything more than A/F's - we'll talk about all of that when you call.

We also need to go back over all your mods again just to make sure you're not going to peak those stock 19# injectors with the addition of the higher ratio rockers, too - I think you're still running the stock 19# injectors if memory serves, & if so, they are good for about 310 HP at the flywheel, absolute maximum in these heavy trucks - we'll talk about all of that whenever you get a chance to call.

Good luck & talk to you soon!
