Another "rant" for TP and I pee'd my pants!
Just want to say a huge "Thank You!!" to Mike, Anita, Crystal and the crew at Troyer Performance. I just got my stage 1 3/4 kit today and I have already installed the 87 octane performance tune. (1 1/2 because I already had the Magnaflow and I am patiently waiting for the AF1 intake if everything pans out performance wise)
I cannot thank Mike, Anita and Crystal enough for all the help and professional service. You guys go the "extra mile" to keep costumers very satisfied, and it makes a huge difference to me as a consumer.
Now the peeing part...
I couldn't wait to get the dual E-fan kit and underdrive pulley on but it will require some time to get them installed. Maybe this weekend or next. So I went ahead and did the 87 octane tune in the garage. Once finished with the flash, I immediately had to take the truck out to see the difference. (The wife had dinner ready and I just said I love you but.... banzai!!)
She had no idea what I was talking about and I am in big trouble for missing dinner....
Anyway I took it out of the neighborhood and decided to see what the tuning was all about. Got on the main road and let it rip.I made sure that no one on the road was within range since I didn't know what to expect. The speed limit was 40 because of some construction that has been going on for 2 years now. I got to 50 so fast I couldn't believe it. Then I noticed two cars ahead of me and they where moving fast, they where going the same direction as I was so I was "kind of surprised". One was a Honda Prelude and in front of him was a police officer in most likely a much faster car than my truck. (Although I am not ready to test this with just the 87 octane tune)
This is where the peeing came in!! Not only was I amazed at how fast I got to 50 (ok maybe 60) and the back breaking shift to 2nd (this is normal until the CAN learns), but now I have "The Man" two cars in front of me at a stop light. He didn't pull me over, either because he wasn't impressed or wasn't paying attention to a 7200 lb truck moving that fast, so quickly. (Or more likely I got really, really lucky)
Well I cleaned the seats real well and changed my clothes.
I have to tell you guys that if the 87 octane Troyer Performance tune does this well, I am absolutely unable to wait until I can run the 93 octane Troyer Performance tune. I now own a new truck, the way I would have expected it to be. (I just hope I can get all this gas into my lawn mower)
I took it out again, one because it was pinging (slightly) with the Exxon 87 octane gas I had in it. I added some Shell 93 octane to level things out and took it for a easy drive for about 30 minutes to "mix things up a bit in the tank". The pinging is completely gone and it is a very, very fun truck to drive.
If you do no other performance tuning for you’re 2004/2005 F150, I would highly recommend talking to Mike and the gang about getting the Xcalibrator and the Troyer Performance custom tunes!!!!
Now I need to add some more stuff to my sig........ Life is hard...

Good story!
I see you use Exxon. That’s probably the worst gas you can buy. It’s reformulated and only has a BTU content of about 75% at best. BTU’s are basically what it’s all about with gas and fuel quality. The higher the energy content the more power available and the better the mpg will be. Sunoco & Citgo are two of the good guys.

We don't have Sunoco's in Texas. I used to use the "jet fuel" they sold in my Motocross bike when I lived in PA.
I used Exxon because it was one of the cleanest fuels to use with the stock F150. I just couldn't wait to flash the truck. The Shell gas fixed the issue and is one of the fuels recomended by Mike.

Crash,
If you like the 87 tune you will like the 93 tune
I'm pretty sure of that . I'm taking mine out of the 93 preformance tune tomorrow . I hate to do it I love the way the truck runs with it in But I need to load the 93 Tow tune
Time to start towing the boat . And that means fishing

Hi Crash Edwards,
Funny post!
Exxon is indeed a "clean" fuel - it just doesn't have the BTU (energy) content that other better quality fuels have, and thus we see lower fuel economy & more tendency to ping. Now a lot of people have the Exxon credit card/Mobil speed pass, etc., and because that is so convenient, a lot of people use it - but we prefer to see people avoid it, just because of what you experienced - pinging - when it won't ping on other better quality fuels - as well as better fuel economy with higher energy fuels.
Right now is also a transitional time, as a lot of areas of the country are just now coming off of winter blend fuels (reformulated, which always have a lower BTU content regardless of brand) and switching over to the mandated "summer blend" fuels - which always deliver better performance and higher fuel mileage.
Those who use fuels with a lower energy content will in general be more prone to some pinging - which is why we stress the use of only the highest quality fuels with our performance tuning. Not only does that yield better performance, but more importantly in this day & age of $2+ a gallon 87 octane fuels, you get better fuel economy. Cheaper fuels (and Exxon is not "cheap" by any means, though it does fall into the same group because of relative energy content) are cheaper for a reason - you pay less because you get less - it's not just that they don't have national advertising campaigns to pay for. The no-names, off-brands & even a few of the so-called "brand name" fuels take every shortcut they can get way with in their blends, and because it costs them significantly less to refine, will use "winter blend" fuels for as long as possible. Exxon went reformulated year-round several years ago, for example. In fact, there are laws that cover many areas of the country that prevent the use of 'winter blend" fuels past anywhere from April 1st to May 1st, depending on location.
The bottom line is, use only the very best quality fuels with our performance tuning (and preferably, even on your stock factory tune) because you get better performance, a higher detonation threshold, and most importantly for a lot of us, better fuel mileage, if it's calculated accurately & compared apples-to-apples.
Sorry, didn't mean to get off on a "rant," just going over some FYI fuel quality stuff..........
Anyway....sounds like you're enjoying your results - posts like yours are what our staff lives for, making all their hard work just that much more worthwhile - so thank you very much for your kudo's - I only hope we can live up to them!
Have fun,
