installing superchips
i recieved my superchips tuner on tuesday and noticed that it says you need to disablt the fuel system fuse. the diagrams they showed were not for the year of my truck. i emailed them and explained and they said to unplug the inertia switch behind the kick panel. i got back there and there are about 5 or 6 different things to choose from can anyone help me with witch one is the inertia switch. Thanks for the help guys!!! my truck is a 99 4x4 4.6 if that matters
Look in your owner's manual for the fuse number/rating (my 1999 is #10, 20 amp). The manual will have a diagram of the fuses by location and number. Find the fuse number and pull that fuse.
The fuse box is under the hood on the driver's side. My 1999 4x2 manual labels the fuel pump fuse as #10 on the diagram.
Enjoy the tune. Just follow the directions.

Hi dwl,
Just follow the instructions, basically. The 1715 Micro Tuner's manual tells you that you need to look up which fuse it is in your F-150's owner manual - they clearly point out that not all trucks are going to be like the pictures they show, as they don't have a separate picture for each & every model year & variation of the F-150 from 1997-2003 model years - which is why they tell you to simply look up the fuse # for the Fuel Pump in your owner's manual to confirm which fuse it is.
You need to remove just 1 fuse to disable the Fuel Pump. This fuse is located in the PDB (Power Distribution Box, what you & I would call a "fuse box") that is under the hood, on the driver's side inner fender (you have to release the catch on the back of it's lid to open it up, the lid flips forward from the back on most 1999-2003's). There are two fuse boxes in those years of F-150, one in the cabin and one under the hood - you want the one under the hood. In many cases it's Fuse #10, but DO NOT JUST ASSUME that - look up in your owner's manual exactly which fuse in the PDB in your year of F-150 belongs to the Fuel Pump - not the fuel pump relay, not anything else - it's just 1 fuse, for the Fuel Pump. Nice & easy.
If you do not have your owner's manual, here is a link (I don't know if the way I posted it will make it work properly, as I just did a "copy shortcut" and pasted it into my post - but the URL address is there so you can easily plug that into your browser) that will take you to where you can download a copy of your owner's manual - at least, according to one of the threads from the search link that jpdadeo kindly posted about the 1999's.

With this info you shouldn't have any problem, but remember just for future reference - any time you need Tech Support, the Micro Tuner's manual clearly points out in several places what to do if you need help - CALL your vendor or the manufacturer directly at the phone number listed in your Micro Tuner's documentation, so you can get immediate help.
Good luck, & hope you enjoy your new Micro Tuner!

Hi jpdadeo,
In the 2004 & up new body style F-150's, you do not need to disable the fuel system when flashing the PCM like you do on earlier F-150's - you can plug it right in and flash the PCM when using the 1714 Micro Tuner, for example.
With the Xcalibrator, you do not need to disable the fuel system on any of them, as in the pre-2004 models the Xcalibrator flashes the PCM so quickly it's not a concern.
So there are some differences between flashing a new body style truck versus the 2003 & earlier units, as well as differences between Micro Tuner and Xcalibrator too, in this regard. Just FYI.
By the way - thanks for helping dwl out with that SEARCH thread link you posted John, that was very thoughtful of you - that's what F-150 Online is all about, people like you (and many others) being willing to help others out as you frequently do.
