What's next?

I have recently purchased an 01 SCREW 4.6, and I love it. I would however like more power, and after reading the threads out here I know that the custom tune is the way to go. So far the only mod I have done is install the cold intake with the K&N filter. Should I get the custom tune next, or put a new SI/SO Magnaflow exhaust? If I do the tune first, will I have to get a new program after I install exhaust? Or should I just keep saving up until I can do both at the same time. It is just so hard to wait!!

Hi Warob,

We generally advise doing your mods in the basic order of bang for the buck - so I would do our custom tuning in the Xcalibrator next, as that is by far the single best bang for the buck performance enhancement you can make to these vehicles. You will not need any tuning changes to be made when you install the Magnaflow exhaust system later on, so no problem there, either.

Even if you were to do some other types of modifications at some point in time in the future that *would* require changes to your tuning, when you go with our custom tuning in the Xcalibrator, we can simply email those changes to you, so it's pretty easy to get that taken care of. But generally speaking, that only happens in the 1997-2003 F-150's when you do modifications that actually affect the tuning, such as changing the MAF meter, or installing larger fuel injectors, or a supercharger, etc. You won't need tuning changes for things like an intake kit, a cat-back exhaust system, electric fans, or larger throttle body, just to give you a few specifics in that regard.

If you'd like to go over this in more detail, please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below.

Welcome to the world of F-150 ownership - we hope you enjoy your SuperCrew!
