? for mike troyer rev limit
? for mike troyer rev limit
I have a 2004 f150 with the 5.4l I was wondering what I could set the rev limiter at (max rpm's) . The reason I ask is that it seems that every time I pass more than 2 cars the truck allways hits the rev limiter when I am just about to pass 2nd person and then I have to back off the gas to get the truck to shift up.
thanks
thanks
This is not something that can be answered with no information to go on.
I have absolutely no idea what you are doing, or if you are using performance tuning of some kind, etc - so all I can tell you is to stop operating the vehicle in a manner that causes it to hit the rev limiter. If you are using some kind of performance tuning device that allows you to adjust the shift points, then you have probably cranked them up way too high, and they need to be set lower to stop this from happening - and that needs to be done right away.
Setting the rev limiter even higher is NOT the answer, generally speaking - that will not do the engine & transmission any good. Having appropriate shift points is the answer. Never spin the motor in any F-150 more than 5400 rpm with a stock torque converter - and don't count on factory tachs to be accurate when accelerating at full-throttle, either.
If you have our *custom* tuning (not a 1714 or 1715 Micro Tuner), then you need to call us about this.
If you are using the 1714 Superchips Micro Tuner on your 2004 F-150 (and I don't even know if it's a Heritage 2V model or a new body style 5.4 3V motor, etc.) , then simply go back in and set the shift points back to the "Superchips" setting.

I'm sorry I forgot to mention that I have a 1714 tuner that I bought from you. It is set on the 87 tow performance setting and everything is at stock set points. I am not sure if it is hitting the rev limiter, all I know is that it will totally cut out and not upshift when doing hard acceleration in passing gear.

Hi gouldje,
Ahh, OK, now I understand - thanks for the additional info. I felt like a dummy not really being able to help you properly before
If you are hitting the rev limiter with the shift points set at the "Superchips" settings, then yes, what "BlackFX4x4" very kindly posted is exactly right - just go back in and retune using the raise rev limiter option.
This is something that affects a few of the 2004 PCM strategies, as usually when the shift points are set at the "Superchips" settings, the rev limiter either does not need to be raised, or it is raised automatically as part of the shift point changes - there are a few where you need to manually go in and use the raise rev limiter option, so it sounds like yours is one of them - just like BlackFX4x4's was.
Thanks for that additional info, I really couldn't help you with what was there before - by the way, any time you need help or want to ask some questions about your 1714 or anything else you get from us, please don't hesitate to give us a call, too.
Thanks for your post, & let us know if you have any problems, OK?
Have fun,
