Mike Troyer Is Not God,

but when god comes to visit, he stays at Mikes house... Man can this guy tune.
I purchased a Excalibrator from "John Doe", a reputable tuner. I installed the custom tune and my truck ran great, at least I thought it did, with the exception of a few small details that I was sure "John Doe" could work out. After making several changes to the shift points we were right in the ball park, now my truck was running at peak performance, or at least I thought . Now if "John Doe" could just get that darn speed limiter removed. (he never did by the way) A little frustrated, I called Mike and asked if there was anything that he could do...... ..... I recieved My custom tune from Mike today. Not only was the speed limiter removed, there was a very noticeable increase in overall performance. I did not know that my truck was capeable of this type of accelleration. A very positive pull right up untill it shifts. Then it starts all over again. I could go on and on but, I have this urge to go out and drive my truck....Oh ya,,I can't figure this out. Now there is something else wrong with my truck..... From a dead stop, when I mash down on the pedel, There is a terrible screeching coming from the back end and I see a bunch of smoke in my rear view mirror,,,, then it does it again, a little, on the 1 - 2 shift... hmmmm, whatever it is, I don't think it is doing my tires any good.
To Mike and every one at Troyer Performance,, Thank You,
Dennis

WOW,

The title of this thread had me concerned a bit. I've come to admire mikes tuning abilitys, but more so his customer service! Recently, he took some time out from a busy tuning job to discuss some issues I was having with my truck (warranty stuff from ford) and gave some great advice. He went well beond any obligation as my tuner exhaust or intake wasn't the issue.

I havn't had the pleasure of experiencing his custom tune work, but think I'll give him a call about an excalibrator then sell off my 1714 tuner. Now where did I put those info sheets for my order??? Hay Mike...

Hi Dennis,

Thanks for your post - I got a good laugh once I actually opened up the thread & read the first sentence.

We end up fixing any number of problems either created or that were not dealt with properly, by numerous other so-called "tuners."

Frankly, I had a bit of a concern as to whether the top speed limiter not being removed might be a problem elsewhere, as I just couldn't imagine any "tuner" not being able to take care of that on your vehicle's PCM revision. But then, these F-150's are not easy to tune consistently with all their thousands of different PCM revisions - it takes specializing in them for years to be able to even begin to approach doing a "competent" job on all of them - let alone a true world-class tune. So what we think of as simple & basic on these trucks, others just can't get - including some major "name" chipmakers.

Another problem we often find with other tuners is slower acceleration that you get with our tunes - especially with supercharger & turbocharger tunes. This too, is something we spend a lot of R&D time on with these trucks for years & years - it all gets down to knowing what you're doing, basically.

I'm delighted to hear it's going well & you're enjoying your new custom tuning - next up is to get the datalogging done so we can dial in the A/F's for you & numerous other things we look at to make sure the tune is safe & sustainable. In the meantime, please just make sure you're not getting any detonation anywhere on your local fuels out there, using the technique we talked about over the phone.

Thanks again for your post, Dennis - have fun & talk to you soon!

Hi Faster,

Your truck's tuning certainly *can* be improved on significantly, it's not limited due to a "primitive" PCM - however, you do need a current generation type of programming product to get the best results.

What might have you thinking that is some of what we've been talking about here - about how we can get a little bit larger power gains in our 87 octane tunes in the 2004 & up 5.4 3V trucks compared to what can be gained in the 5.4 2v or 4.6 2V trucks - so that might be what you're thinking about, or have seen us talk about here, perhaps?

At any rate, your present PCM is fine for performance tuning, and you can get an excellent result with the right tuning.

If you are still using the older blue-colored Superchip module, *that* limits you compared to what can be done these days. 2 years ago we stopped doing custom tuning in those single-bank (1 or 2 program) types of modules, because they cannot address all the banks inside the PCM. These days, pretty much everyone has gone to a 4-bank style of chip, and that is all we use for our custom tuning.

So if you actually want the best results, that is had with our *custom* tuning - we've specialized in performance-tuning these trucks longer than anyone else, and we get better results as you can see from the posts here.

We also have a trade-up campaign for those older style blue Superchip modules - they're not worth much these days as they are only single bank, whereas current products are 4-bank - but you can use it to defray a part of the cost of having us put you into a custom 4-bank chip or 4-bank hand-held tuner loaded with our custom tuning. That way you'll get significantly larger power & performance gains - easily twice the gains you're getting now from that blue Superchip module.

I'd suggest not spending a dime to have an older blue Superchip module reprogrammed - instead, I'd get into something more modern so you can get into our *custom* tuning, as that will get you a much better result - but that's up to you, of course.

Best of luck whatever you decide!

It's against the rules of F-150 Online for us to discuss any specific pricing here, so you will need to call us at our number listed below for that info - thanks for your understanding & cooperation on this.

LOL, glad to see a few are having some fun with this thread,,as was it's intention.
From reading the different threads I see quite a few of you have been working with Mike Troyer for some time and already know that he is a "Tuning Guru" gu·ru:: A trusted counselor and adviser; a mentor.,,, A recognized leader in a field:,, An expert. Implies not only wizard skill but also a history of being a knowledge resource for others.... Well, I am still quite amazed (so are the two Hemi's in town) with my Troyer tune. My wife (who is still trying to find where to check the blinker fluid in her truck) could even tell the difference between my first tune and Mikes.
Mike, not to worry on the detonation thing,,As per your request the first thing I did was drive my truck easy and head for the canyon wall. I never would have believed that you could hear and isolate sounds so well.. The second thing I did was find a couple races...uhh,,umm,,ahh I'm sure that was the order that I did those As for the datalogging and A/F readings, I have Dyno time scheduled for thursday. I will be in touch pryor to that.
Thanks again,
Dennis
Oh, One more thing, do you have any "Troyer Performance" window or bumper stickers? I want one for my rear bumper so the guy can see who tuned the truck that just beat him. he-he-he
