Chip/Flash for mpg gains?

I did a forum search and couldn't find anything other than arguments over whether performance chips add economy gains as well. Any such thing as a program strictly for mpg gains? I know you don't get an F150 for mpg's, but maximizing what I've got isn't a bad idea to me.

Well, I don't know how much time you've spent reading here (and I say it that way simply to emphasize the fact that it takes some real time here due to the sheer number of posts), but if you've spent some real time going thru those specific types of posts using the SEARCH feature, then you already know that most people do see some mpg gains as a by-product of our performance tuning. There are literally hundreds of posts here over the past few years with well-documented MPG gains, and they by far outnumber the "argument" posts. The reality is the majority of our customers do in fact see some MPG gains as a by-product of our performance tuning.

That being said, and I want to be clear about this, we do NOT make any iron-clad guarantees of better mpg no matter what - we can't, as that is dependent upon far too many factors beyond our control, such as fuel quality, vehicle maintenance, how the vehicle is operated, etc., etc.

Now, can we do an "MPG" type of tune? Yes, we can.

What I suggest is what the vast majority of people here do, which is to use our multi-tune custom flasher, the Xcalibrator, so we can do a set of 3 different custom tunes. That way we can do something like say, a towing-compatible tune (you cannot tow on an "MPG" tune), then an "MPG" tune, and a performance tune, for example. Or whatever combination of tunes works best for your needs & vehicle usage.

Typical MPG gains from our tuning run anywhere from ZERO if it's driven harder and/or cheap gas is used, to as much as a 3.5 MPG gain - more often the MPG gains seem to run in the .7 - 1.7 more MPG range overall, just to give you a rough idea of the reports we get more often. We have had some reports of 3.5 more MPG - but that's obviously on the extreme high end, and not what I'd call a "typical overall" result. Highway cruising is where you will see the highest gains, of course, and there most reports seem to average in the 1.3 - 2.0 more MPG range, with some reports over 3.0 MPG.

I hope I've managed to give you some helpful/accurate info and not confused you in the process with all of this - feel free to give us a call to go over this in proper detail.

Hi DD,

Thanks, glad you liked it - we just hope that gave "qdude79" the kind of info he was looking for.

He made a good post, & obviously knows these trucks won't get what some would call "good" mpg, but making the best of what you've got is a good idea.
