Yet Another Happy Troyer Customer

Mike:

I know you get tired of reading these, but I just installed the Excalibrator and wanted to sing some praise....

I'm the one that had the little "setback" Anita probably spoke to you about...but fortunately everything worked out fine. My truck has 35" tires with the stock 3.55 gearing and I can't believe what your tuning has done for my truck. No throttle lag, RPM's are where they need to be, the shift points are perfect, and there is no doubt that a V8 resides under the hood when I gas it.

I did compare the speedo post-calibration using my GPS unit and am now reading about 2 miles OVER at about 60 instead of 5 mph under....this is probably a blessing in disguise as I'm sure it will save me a few tickets over the next few years.

Again, thanks Mike.

David Kelley

P.S. Maybe one day I'll quit reading all these horror stories about how loud an Airaid is and buy one from you. If I do decide to take that plunge, I'll be calling you.

Hi David,

Gosh, I don't think we can tolerate *another* one of those posts!! (just kidding!)

Seriously, thanks for your kind words - they mean more than you'll ever know to us.

I think you're the gentleman whose PCM was reflashed at a dealership literally while your Xcalibrator was on it's way to you, if memory serves. In some of those cases, we'll need to do a new set of tunes, but in other cases, we don't - like the old no-help-at-all saying goes, "it just depends."

In your case, it wasn't an issue.

Regarding the speedo calibration - if it's off, then that means the tires you have don't adhere precisely to the normal tire sizing standards (P-metric or otherwise), and thus will have a different revs per mile spec. We do the speedo calibrations based on the industry-standard tire-sizing specifications for each exact tire size - but sometimes we'll find that a tire does not actually quite adhere to those standards, and that happens most frequently with taller tires, for example.

That's easy to take care of if that's the case - just call the tire's manufacturer (not distributor or dealer, the company that actually *makes* that tire), and ask them for their "revs-per-mile" specification for that exact tire, and then get that info to us. We'll be happy to take a look at that and make a change if needed
(assuming your GPS gear is spot-on accurate - much of it isn't, even after the basic "civilian skew" was taken out of those sat sigs. Some of the newest GPS gear can indeed be that accurate).

Being exactly 2 mph off at 60 mph is a 3.33% error - which is just about as close as the stock calibration is with the original tires in many of these vehicles. A 3% error is not a big deal, but if it's just an issue of needing the manufacturer's exact revs per mile spec, we can easily take care of that for you. Whenever you get a chance, give the tire manufacturer a call and get their "revs per mile" specification and shoot that info to us by phone or email (make sure to include all your other info if you email us, so we know exactly who, what vehicle, etc.). We'll be happy to take a look and see if their actual revs per mile spec is different than the "industry standard" (so to speak) that we have plugged in, and if so, make that change for you.

Thanks for your post & have fun!
