Anita and Mike Thank you.

Anita, thank you for providing me (a self-proclaimed NOOB) with technical information, that I am severly lacking.

I just installed the AF1 and then used the 1715 Programmer to tune the truck to the 87 octane performance setting. I am pretty damned amazed that I can actually tell a difference over the stock tune.

Once I install the 6" Fabtech with 315/75r16 and regear to 4.56 I will need your expertise again.

I'll pass your thanks on to Anita, she always likes hearing she's made someone happy - and thanks for your business!

Looks like you're putting a nice 1998 F-150 together there - glad to hear you can tell the difference from the 87 octane tune, as some people can't feel that in the seat-of-the-pants in such a heavy vehicle - we usually tell them to do some before & after 0-60 times or 1/4 mile times, or run against a friend's truck they have run against before, etc. to try to ,make a comparison. Some people can tel the difference right away, and then some can't feel even a 30 Hp gain in the seat-of-the-pants in a 2-3 ton truck, and everything in between. Glad you're happy with it!

I'd love to have that Harley listed in your sig line sitting in my driveway, by the way!

have fun,

Well since I really can't give it to you, how will this picture do?

And this is how the AF1 looks:

Thanks again.

MAF connector

Hi.

Ditto on the bike - very nice!

About your AF1... according to the instructions I have, the connector on the MAF should be vertical ( point down ). Looking at your pix, you have it oriented on top, and the harness looks a little stressed. The connector cover should snap into place over the end of the connector if it's in front ( mine did anyway).

Also, I don't think you can recal the speedo for your proposed tire /gear combo with the 1715 for that model year ('98) - could be wrong here, though... just an fyi ;-))

cheers

PS: I have a mildy massaged '88 GT ragtop that I'm never gonna sell - gotta love that 5.0 L / 5 speed /3.08 combo & 1.6 sec 60 foot time ;-)). 25K original miles, never seen rain or (yuck!) snow!

Man I hate you for still having your 5.0 -- jking.

I will adjust the harness tonight. Thanks for the correction.

About the calibration, I believe I will have to get a small gear on put it somewhere to compensate for the bigger tires. I will do a search for the exact item.

Thanks again.

Gee, are you *sure* you can't just give us that beautiful Harley? Thanks for the pic........

On the MAF meter, those that have a screen in them can throw off the A/F's if the meter is rotated - but if it doesn't have a screen (and most F-150's don't from '97 on up), then usually the transfer function (A/F's) is OK, you just don't want to put the harness in a bind, of course. MGDfan makes a good point to remember in that just speaking in general, it's not a good idea to rotate the MAF meter, because in some applications (not all, but in some) that can throw it's transfer function (and thus leaning out the A/F's) off enough to require correction - just FYI.

It's a simple speedo gear in the talishaft of the transmission to recalibrate the speedometer in the 1997 & 1998 F-150 - as you know, it can't be done by altering the PCM's programming in those model years. I don't like using some of the inline electronic devices in the F-150, I prefer to do it in the speedo gear just as you mentioned.

Have fun,
