Question Superchips Tuner problems!!!

I have a Superchips 1715 Max tuner in my 2001 supercrew and ever since installing the program my service engine light comes on. The error codes say that it is misfiring and 2 different cylinders. What can I do about this?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!

I would return the truck back to stock tune this will clear the codes, drive it for a while and see if the problem comes back. I would venture to say that this is just a coincidence the truck has probably had a missfire coming on and it just hapened at this time. Did you dissable the fuel system when you installed the tune?

Hello Bloongren,

Sorry to hear you are having a problem!

However, what you need to do is explained right there in your Micro Tuner's documentation - if you'll give it a careful read, you'll see that it points out in several places to call the manufacturer right away if you have a problem and need help - don't wait, call them right away so they can help you. The manufacturer's phone number is right in there for you, and that is how to get the best help on this.

Some basic info...............

The most basic thing to do (other than calling the manufacturer if you have a problem, which should always be done first) would be to return the vehicle back to it's stock tuning and see if you still have the same problem. Just so you'll know, it is NOT any kind of normal result from installing the 1715 Micro Tuner to have any such problems - you'll notice you don't see those kinds of posts here.

Tuning does not cause coil packs to fail, or cause the engine to miss, etc. However, if the battery didn't have a full charge, or if anything else was on or using current in the vehicle while the Micro Tuner was in use, or any aspect of the procedure not done exactly as instructed, then you can damage the PCM. Which is why the Micro Tuner's instructions point out all of that - another point that is very important this time of year is that you CANNOT attempt to flash the PCM in freezing temperatures. That is an excellent way to damage both the PCM and the Micro Tuner, and is also pointed out in the Micro Tuner's instructions.

The only thing I can suggest at this point is that you follow your documentation and call the manufacturer (Superchips, Inc.) to get Tech Support, so they can help you right away - now they are probably going to tell you to make sure you are not trying to flash the PCM in freezing temperatures, make sure that the battery has a full charge and nothing else is on in the vehicle, and then to return it to the stock tuning and see if the problem goes away.

If the problem goes away as soon as you return it back to the stock tuning, then the manufacture will probably want to look at the unit for you - but if the problem is still there, then it's either due to proper procedure not being followed and the PCM was damaged, or it's an unrelated problem that just happened to occur at about the same time (we've seen that happen from time to time and it can be frustrating & make you think it's the Micro Tuner - I know) and you'll need to have the vehicle properly diagnosed by a mechanic, as it would have nothing to do with the tuning change.

That's about the best I can tell you for right now - sorry I can't give you more help & good luck!

The light only comes on while I have the Superchips program installed. As soon as I put the Superchips program in the light will come on after the pickup is drivin for a bit. As soon as I return to stock the light never comes on!!! Could the tuner be faulty???
