Talking Xcalibrator tune update

Well folks,

Its been a few weeks since getting my Xcalibrator tune form Mike Troyer. I started out using my 91 Perfomance tune as 91 octane is the best we can get here in the west. I knew that it would take the PCM to go through its learning curve before I would realize how well the tune was performing.

My truck is not a daily driver so it may take some more time before I see the finished product but I've now gotten about 200 miles on it and it gets better each time I go out.

One thing for sure, when you get on it you better watch the speedo because your up at 90 before you know it. I think since this truck is such a quiet and smooth ride you hardly notice how fast your going. If I thought I'd ever push it up higher than that I would certainly change out the tires. The factory tires are just not rated for that.

Off the line with my 4.10 gears I really can feel it grab me by the pants. I try and NOT brake loose the wheels. Hate to do that.

Anyway, bottom line is that the tuning Mike did and how he adjusted for our not so perfect 91 octane gas has made my day. I should have a few more hundred miles on it in a week or so. Then I will report how the finish is doing.

The only thing I see at this point is I may have to lower my idle. It was raised due to my underdrive pullys but I think it can be lowered a bit.

Troyer Performance Tuning ROCKS!

did you notice much gain from the Plasma Igniton Booster,
Underdrive pully set, and was it worth it?

I have a 3" single dynomax, a airaid on and a xcalibrator on the way with 94 performance and 89 performance.

Glad to hear everything is good with the tune but of course I new it would be since I got one too. I’ve been using Sunoco 93-octane and it sure makes the truck fun to drive. I’m jealous of that 4:10 gear you got, wow! I can’t break my tires loose from an idle tromp; have to power brake it a little but I got a 3:55. Have fun Larry just keep it under 118mph; that’s probably the max your tires are rated for.

Question Lots of hardware dealers

Yes there are lots of dealers that sell the tuners like the Xcalibrator. And you can probably get a great deal on one. The Xcalibrator is just a simple tool used to get a CUSTOM tune into your PCM.

Now the real thing is WHO builds that tuning and saves it into the Xcalibrator? Thats the person or company that you must have faith in to do you right. My experence has shown me who I can trust and that is Mike Troyer at Troyer Performance. I am only saying he is the one I picked and I am totally satisfied that he knows what he is doing. You may find other tuners who you feel do a fiine job too and thats good for you.

I've never let price drive my decision for quality so you pays your money and you takes your choice.

As for how much gain I got when I put the plasma booster and underdrive pullys on, thats kinda hard to say. Each added a little bit here and there and I did them almost all at once. Due to the fact that the current PCM has a learning curve it takes a little time before you realize the gains.

All I can say is I feel all the things I've done equal a pretty nice package. I have one more mod in mind and I am awaiting the e-fan set up from Troyer. Should be ready later this month per Anita.

As for 118 Mph, not anytime soon.
But this thing is great off the line. I got the 4.10 gears for the towing and glad I did.

I don't understand the thinking You buy a $40,000 truck and want to save a couple dollars on a tune and the tuner may be gone in a month. Cheap isn't always good. I'll stick with Mike Troyer he's always ther for the customer. And my truck LOVES him

Yes and I really doubt that he is getting that much rwhp form and 87 tune. But again, its who you really trust and cost is NOT a factor to me, quality and reputation is. I am glad you feel bamachips.com can do right by you. After my experences with Troyer Performance, there "ain't gona be no one else" touching my tunes but Mike Troyer. And by the way, Troyer is Not really that expensive.

chucks bp, I'm with you!

Don't worry fellows - that clown was spamming for his buddy - or actually *was* that same guy posing as someone else. Either way, his posts are gone as they were a deliberate and extremely blatant violation of F-150 Online's rules & policies.

Thanks much for your support - you're absolutely right, it's the skill of the individual tuner, not whether you can save $10, and nobody else has specialized in tuning these trucks as long as we have, so they don't have our years, sheer numbers, amount of R&D or level of experience on this platform.
