Question 1714 vs Xcalibrator?

My first post! Had my 2004 FX4 Supercab for a couple months now and it's a great truck. No plans for lifts/tires/mods of any kind but from reading other posts I'm curious about tuning. With no plans for any serious aftermarket modifications (and I plan on running 87 octane majority of the time) is there any strong reason to go for the Xcalibrator over the 1714?

Welcome to F-150 Online!

One thing you'll want to know about right away is the F-150 Online SEARCH feature (its icon is in the upper right portion of your screen here). This is a topic that, like virtually anything else on the subject of Computer Chips, has been discussed countless times before as you can probably imagine, so you can easily look up previous posts on any topic via SEARCH & read them. It's a good idea to do that first any time you have a question, as there is almost nothing that has not been asked & answered here before with as many people that come to F-150 Online - it's a much quicker way to get the info you want and cuts down on time spent typing, etc - just FYI so you'll know.

Now to answer your question................

Hardware-wise, it doesn't matter - either device will upload tuning to the PCM, it's *who* is doing the actual tuning that makes the difference. With our custom tuning, there is better performance and driveability compared to the 1714, so those who want the best results go with our custom tuning. Don't get me wrong, the 1714 works very well, it is by far the best "standard" tuning device on the market for the 2004 F-150, and it does cost a little bit less than our custom tuning. Those who are on a tighter budget will usually go with the 1714 Micro Tuner and they're happy with it - then those who can afford to spend a little bit more will opt for our custom tuning to get the very best results.

To get our custom tuning for the 2004/2005 F-150's, you'll need to order the Xcalibrator and you can do that at this link: http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...chips%3BFoMoCo

If you choose to order via our web site, please make sure that you enter your F-150 Online screen name in the "Special Instructions" text box in our online ordering system at www.TroyerPerformance.com, as that gets you a special deal on the Xcalibrator that will also give you the email update capability at no additional charge, saving you the additional cost of the Email Update Kit, which is a separate option - and will also get you not just one, but 3 different custom tunes. So you'll have tuning for any level of octane (regular or premium) and any type of vehicle use (towing or performance). We do not process our online orders "automatically" as many web sites do, but instead each one is carefully checked & processed individually by hand, and your credit card is NOT charged until we're actually shipping the product out the door.

Or, you can always order either the Xcalibrator or the 1714 Micro Tuner by simply giving us a call at our number listed below - that's what most people do, so they get a chance to talk directly with our staff, get any other questions answered, etc.

Congratulations on your new 2004 FX4 SuperCab, that is a fantastic truck - by the way, only the FX4's & Lariats can have the center console-mounted shifter, my favorite interior configuration in the new F-150.

Best of luck whatever you decide, & don't hesitate to call us if you'd like to go over any of this or anything else performance-related about your new truck!
