to chip a 1990 F150???

We have a 1990 F150 Lariat 4x4, 5.8L, 4inch lift, 15x33 tires, rims, cat back exhaust, and 50,000 original miles. It did a little offroading in it's youth but is now mostly a driveway decoration. We use it to tow our trailer (rarely) and are finally getting around to considering changing the eccu and wonder what ramifications this will have. Any cautions, additional modifications, etc ?? Would appreciate any advice.
Thanks.

Hi LW,

Just give us a call at our number listed below & we can help you with this, as we do tuning for most of the 1987 & newer F-series trucks. It's far too involved to get into via typing, so just give us a call on this.

Also, it helps to spend some time reading some of the threads here in this section, as virtually anything you could want to know has been discussed many times here - the SEARCH feature is the hot tip for looking up & retrieving any previous posts to read them - the icon to access it is in the upper right portion of your screen here - just FYI so you'll know.

Some brief info.............

In terms of "ramifications," there really aren't any when using a properly done performance tune - it's simply a matter of installing it as per the instructions and then enjoying it.

We recommend using our multi-program chip, so we can provide several different custom tunes - that way you can have tuning for any level of octane (of course, the highest power gains come from tuning for premium gas), tuning for both performance and towing needs, etc., without the compromises that are always required when using a single powertrain program for everything.

Take a look at this link below, and you'll want to read up specifically on our Part# SCT6600, that's our 4-program custom tuned chip for your truck - here's the link: http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...chips%3BFoMoCo

There is also the Part# 5500 that we can load our custom tuning into, that is a single program custom-tuned chip. You will see other tuning products there too, but in terms of what you should use to get the best results on your vehicle, it's the SCT6600 part number.

Nice to see an older truck with low miles like that - many times those vehicles need some maintenance, like fresh O2 sensor(s) -if they're original, they need replacement by now - and things like the ignition system (plugs & plug wires), fuel filter, etc. That's just some basic FYI, you may well know all about that.

Feel free to give us a call to go over any details, & best of luck with your truck!
