'96 Straight Six computer?
'96 Straight Six computer?
Word is there is a chip for my '96 straight six and I'm suppose to find the computer ID in the doorjam can't find anything related to the computer. Below the glove box and a little to the left its got a hookup for what looks like some kind of diagnostic tool and where a troyer would get plugged in. I know its a Canadian truck any ideas on how to get the right info? This truck is great for torque but sucks on the highway. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Hi Wes,
Yes, we can help you with this - the code sticker is on the back of the PCM, which can be seen in the 1987-1996 F-150's by removing the driver's kick panel, and then looking forward and low. The PCM rests in a small "channel" for lack of a better term, and looks like a galvanized-aluminum box in appearance, about 1.5 inches wide by 6 inches tall by 9 inches long - from the cabin with the driver's kick panel removed, all you can see is the rear of the PCM, and there is usually a code sticker there. You can also look under the hood on the driver's side at the wiring harness where it connects to the front of the PCM - that's down underneath the brake master cylinder - there is usually another code sticker right there, too.
If that sticker is not there, then you will need to remove the PCM from the vehicle in order to find it's code, as all Ford EEC PCM's will have a large sticker on top, that will have numerous lines of writing on it - a few lines down, printed in bold capitals, will be the code we need, 3 letters followed by 1 number.
Just give us a call & we can provide directions on how to remove the PCM from those vehicles if you need to get to a code sticker. In fact, I am leaving for the PRI show in a little while, and won't be back until Monday - but you can call our staff at our number listed below (they'll be here while I'm at PRI), and I have already told them to FAX you our chip installation instructions for the 1987-1996 body style F-150's - you can use those docs to remove the PCM so you can find the large stocker on top of every Ford PCM that *will* also have the code printed in bold, capital letters - the code will be 3 letters followed by 1 number - like NUB1, CDC3, etc. - there are many different codes.
So just give our office a call and tell them you're "Wes" (you can also use your F-150 Online screen name too, but make sure to tell them you're "Wes," too) - the guy Mike Troyer said to call for our instructions for the 1987-1996 F-150 Superchip installation, so you can get those docs and thus have proper instructions on how to get to the PCM and find the big sticker that is on top of all Ford EEC PCM's, OK?
Good luck & hang in there, this isn't hard once you have good instructions!!
