Will SC tuner program be retrievable if CPU dies?

I have been watching chip and tuner technology grow for several years now. I have neither but I am now thinking about getting one or the other. A chip will not provide what I want and a tuner might. So, Iam leaning toward a tuner. However, I expect 250/300k miles from my truck. Thus, it is concievable that the CPU might fail during that time. Should it fail, what are the chances that a tuner program may be lost when it happens?

Thanks in advance.

Hi George,

Well, if the PCM fails *completely* while you have the performance tuning installed, meaning the PCM fails to the point that you can't even return the PCM back to it's stock tuning, then sure, of course you'd lose the tuning that is installed. No 2 ways about that - if the PCM is dead, then it's dead.

However, if something like that happens to one of our custom tuning customers, we take care of that by having them send their tuner back in to us, and for just the cost of shipping we'll take care of it so they can use their tuning once again. We do require some type of verification - like an invoice for a new PCM, for example - but for anyone that has a legitimate problem like that, we make sure they don't lose their tuning permanently.

By the way - just so you'll know for future reference, any time you want to know something, use the SEARCH feature to look it up instantly - the icon to access SEARCH is in the upper right portion of your screen here, and with a little practice using it's excellent search filters, you'll love it. Virtually anything you can think to ask has already been asked & answered here hundreds, if not literally thousands of times before already, and the SEARCH feature is your key to instantly unlocking all that information, allowing you to quickly retrieve & read posts already here on any topic, and cuts down on repetitive posts & typing, etc., on this busy web site. We get new people here every day thanks to the popularity of this web site, and most people want to know the same things that concern virtually all vehicle owners - so the Webmaster has provided the SEARCH feature for that purpose, and that way you don't have to wait for a response - just FYI so you'll know.

PS - I got a good laugh from your choice of screen names - you're no "dummy," and *all* of us here were new to this at one time or another - welcome aboard!
