Installed 1714...

First off let me give you a rundown. I have a "rare" Regular Cab Short Bed 4x2 04 F-150 with the 5.4L and 3.73 LS diff. A "stripper" model as Mike Troyer put it. I am eventually buying 4.10's for the rear !!!

From the factory the truck pulled a 9.95@71.5 in the 1/8th mile. Well, so far I have installed a Magnaflow exhaust, Airaid intake and Superchips tuner.

When I first installed the tuner, the truck was faster, but it wasnt pulling right based on the Superchips settings. I did notice an immediate difference...but. Nothing against Superchips, but I think the setting may have been more directed towards the heavier 4x4 models with less gearing.

Anyway, I set the high performance 91+ octane tuning as such.

Shift points:
1-2 is at +3 WOT
2-3 is at +6 WOT
3-4 is at Superchips setting.

Shift pressure:
1-2 is at 18psi
2-3 is at 16 psi
3-4 is at 14 psi

Rev limiter and Speed limiter were raised.

Now, although some of these settings may be in the general vicinity of the SC's settings, these seemed to work best. I didnt pull these out of my @$$. LOL!!! I messed with this for an hour and a half on different settings until it felt right to me.

Just for a reference point on gains...check this out. I have a merging lane that I have to hit everyday on the way to work. This merging lane is well shy of an 1/8th mile. Remember I hit about 71.5 mph in the 1/8th stock. Well, when I was stock I could hit 59mph in this merging lane. After exhaust and intake I barely broke 61mph. Although that is a good gain, it isnt HUGE.

After I got done tuning with the Superchips I easily break 65 MPH on the merging lane.

I think due to the difference in weight from my truck to the more common Supercab's and X-cabs, I DID feel a seat of the pants difference. Plus, I have pretty low gears for a 4x2. The truck pulls MUCH harder through the upper RPM band and from a dead stop it comes out of the hole very strong. When I kick down from 2nd to 1st gear it puts you back really good and lights em up when I shift.

Based on my mph difference I am sure I gained some time in the 1/8th mile but I am not sure HOW much. It has been raining like crazy so I cant get to the track. But, I am hoping for mid 9's in the 1/8th. Not to mention, this truck pulls harder in the top of 2nd gear than any other gear and now I shift at 80mph out of 2nd gear.

So, overall the gains for me were extensive and I could really feel a seat of the pants gain. No doubt the truck pulls harder all the way through. Thanks to Mike Troyer for talking to me several times over the phone and in full detail. It has been a while since you talked to me, but the info helped and it is a totally different truck.

Just my two cents.

Excellent post hellbound!

I'm glad you got good results with the 1714. I enjoy reading about your progress/results with your truck.

I'm looking forward to hearing about the results when you next make it to the track.

Thanks man. I dont like to set myself up for failure, so my hopes arent high. But, with the difference I feel I better get a better time. Even if not, the truck responds much better.

Pulleys, fan kit and headers are coming soon as well. Then gears. I want to see how good I can get naturally aspirated before I go forced induction of any kind.

Then, watch out !! Ha.

I also drive a "rare" Single cab flare side 5.4L and i have exactly the same except for the 2 3 4 but I have 1st-2nd shift at +4 and i chirp into second. I love this tuner I don't know how it can get any better than the 1715. Ive only gone WOT a total of about 3 times with this tuner. There is simply no need to (except to mess up my girlfriends hair) I have so much passing power in that truck that i think i should have my own lane on the freeway.

I should add to this also.

I has a 1714 before. It was good for a basically stock engine.

I soon went to a custom dynotune from troyer. Went to Virginal and loaded up on his dyno. HP feel was SLIGHTLy better, but driveabality was MUCH better. Now, I have a custom exhaust, intake, UD pullies, 4.10 gears, and efans.

My best N/A 1/8 mile run was a 8.98 @78. Most of my runs are LOW 9 second runs. My best 60' time was a 1.93.

I have since added traction bars, and I'm looking for some CHEAP drag radials.

With a blower and drag radials.. I am hoping to hit 8.60's or so. If Im lucky, Lower.

My adivce is to sell that 1714/1715 and get a Troyer tune. If you plan on doing ALOT of other mods.... simply get a supercharger. It will be money well spent, and you'll have one of the fastest regular cab 04+ F150's out there. I spent and learned.. N/A is NOT the way to go.
