question! for Mike troyer ?
I've ordered the performance chip for my new F150. Here in Holland the fuel prices are very high, for example 1 liter of 95 costs 1,57 dollar, 98 costs 1,63 dollar.
So LPG is what most of V8 drivers are building in. (costs 0,61 dollar a liter).
My Ford also runs on LPG and off course also on regular fuel. Once I do the performance tuning is it possible to drive on LPG without damaging the engine? ore do I need to reset it to stock tuning?
(Hope the writing is oke )
I've read all the possitive reactions on this site so I must have one to......

Nice to have a member from Holland dropping by.
No, I don't recommend using the performance tuning with LPG, we have not done any R&D on that and have not tried it, so we cannot say that would be safe.
If memory serves, I think what you have coming is the 1714 Micro Tuner for the 2004 F-150. Any time you use the tuning in the Micro Tuner, no matter which of it's 3 different programs you use, you will need to burn gasoline, not LPG.
Also, remember that if you are going to use anything other than the 87 octane program in the 1714 Micro Tuner, you will have to burn your highest octane fuels - that will probably be your local 98 octane (Europe) gasoline. We figure octane differently here, using Research + Motors method divided by 2 (R+M/2) to calculate octane, so just remember that your local 97-98 octane gasoline is equal to our 91-93 octane premium gasolines here in the US.
Good luck!

Mike,
Thanks for the reaction.
I Didn't know there was a difference on the octane fuel. I will use the 98 fuel, and maybe I can try out the tuner on LPG. See if I notice any difference, and let you know. I understand that I normally can not drive it with LPG! Unless you're telling me that it's better not to testdrive it once also....
Thanks again for the advise, and for the quick delivery. Got the order today.

Holland? No kidding? I spent a half year working on a project in Amsterdam and Leiden and I cannot imagine driving my truck over there. I almost killed a couple hundred bicyclists in my Ford Mondeo...how can you avoid them in your truck???
I hope you aren't driving your F-150 through the cities.
Goed geluk

Hahaha, well I do driving my truck in the city. I'm living close to Leiden, The Haque. Also a big city with lot's off trafic and cyclist. But I'm used to it ..... besides, the truck is a lot bigger and stronger than a bike so they will be carefull. Driving the truck gives a lot of attention from the other traffick. Because there are not many new F150 over here. Most off them are Avalanches and a few Hummer's. I had a chevy avalanche my selve. But I must say I like the Ford a lot more..
What project did you worked on over here?

Hello haagsportief,
Actually, I'd love to know the results, I wish I had a few vehicles here to do some tuning R&D for LPG on, and could thus give you an intelligent answer on this..........
LPG is cleaner burning than gas, has good BTU content, leaves fewer combustion chamber deposits, and is cheaper, so it has a lot going for it.
This is something we've just never had the opportunity to do some real R&D on, as there are so few vehicles here in the US using LPG. In the past 5 years, I think we've had maybe 4-6 inquiries about tuning for LPG, total - very few. Of course, here in the US we're "spoiled" by our low gas prices compared to much of the rest of the world - if we had to pay $5 a gallon for gas, a lot more vehicles would be burring LPG!
If you decide to try it, I would suggest using the 87 octane program in the Micro Tuner, as that is the most conservative tune, and uses the least amount of spark advance - I almost hesitate to even suggest trying that, as I can't tell you the results, not having tried that myself. But if you do decide to do that, I'd love to hear your results & impressions.
I think I'd feel more comfortable about this if you had an EGT (exhaust gas temperature) gauge installed, as that would allow you to stay out of trouble, so to speak, by knowing the conditions in the combustion chamber. then you could get out of the throttle the instant you saw the EGT's elevating (if that happened at all)...........
Best of luck with this, & please be careful!

Mike,
I will give it a try, but if it's possible to order a EPG I prefer to do that first. Do you have one and if you do can I order it? I will install it first before I try the tuner out. Off course I don't want to damage engine....
Please let me know how to order the EPG.

If you are referring to an EGT gauge (exhaust gas temperature) like I mentioned in my last response, then yes, we can help you with that. We carry all types of gauges & gauge pods to mount them in for a neat appearance inside the cabin, no problem.
I run an EGT gauge on my gas-engine truck (a supercharged Lightning model F-150) & highly recommend it, as it gives the driver instant information on what's actually going on inside the combustion chamber - you know instantly if you are "safe" or not, and that's a big help for doing R&D, tuning, etc.
To order an EGT gauge from us, please give us a call whenever you have time at our phone number listed below - I know your time zone is much different than ours, so you might want to send us an email first to get all the information, details, etc. if you like. Send us an email at: sales@troyerperformance.com to ask about the EGT gauge & we'll get you all the details. Then if you like what you see, we'll be happy to process an order for you.
Thanks for asking, & talk to you soon!
