Question for Mike

I was just wonderin how much ur max micro tuner would help my 03 lightning. I was thinking of goin with a tuner this time. I have had a superchip before, i had a flip chip on my 97 4.6 lariat. I plan on modding later on but for now all i have is a drop in k&n and was thinkin of a tuner to start off.

Question

What was your experience with the chipped '97? Who's flip chip was it? I'm considering a microtuner for towing and wanted to know how well the '97 trans responded to programming. Was there anything else done to the truck or was it stock?

Hi Mickey,

What I suggest for your Lighting is to have us do our CUSTOM Micro Tuner instead of going with the “standard” Superchips MAX Micro Tuner – you’ll get better tuning with more power gains and better performance – as well as getting it set up just the way you want it, and having email update capability should you ever do any other modifications to your Lightning (like most of us Lightning owners do sooner or later), etc.

Give us a call to go over this in more detail, but basically, I’d say to go with our #9100 Micro Tuner – you can see it on our web site at www.TroyerPerformance.com - and the hot tip is to call us so we can go over this in proper detail with you, as we should talk about your current mods, how you use your Lightning, what you might be thinking of doing in the future, etc.

In the standard MAX Micro tuner (the 1715) for the Lightning programs, that tuning is set up for 91 octane, and is conservative at that - with no ability to do any custom changes – and that simply is not the way for Lightning owners to go, IMHO. There is more power and performance available in custom tuning, as well as the ability to change that tuning for any future modifications, etc. So for all the factory-supercharged Lightnings, Harleys & Cobras, we recommend using our custom tuning on those vehicles, even in bone-stock trim.

Have fun & talk to you soon!

The flip chip was mine. I also had headers, msd coils, accel wires, flex-a-lite electric fans, throttle body space, true dual flowmasters. I think that the truck responed very well to the custom program mike put together for me on the 97. I was very pleased with the truck, but just ran across a deal i couldnt turn down with the lightning
