Towing With The 87 Tune?

Will it be OK to tow a 3500 LB boat with the 1714 set on the 87 Octane tune? I know it has a 91 Octane Tow Safe tune but I really want to continue burning 87 if I can.

towing with 87 octane

when i set mine in 87 octane it ask me if i was going to be towing more than 4000 pounds. So i would say as long as if it is no more than 4000 it would be ok. I wish it had a tow mod for 87 i have a 8000 tralier that i tow but i have to use the tow mod for that.

When I talked to Anita at Troyer, see said that the menu was wrong that you could still tow up to the limit of the truck with the 87 tune. She said she was going to call superchips about that menu of "towing more than 4000lbs?" I called to ask about the the same thing. Mike should come on to the forum to answer for sure.

Hi everyone,

No problem with towing all the way up to rated capacity with the 1714's 87 octane tune - what Kevin posted is exactly right, that's just a slight error in the text message displayed on the LCD screen. What that question ("Towing more than 4000 lbs.?") really applies to is only the "hi-performance" program, even though it shows up when loading the 87 octane tune, too.

You have the full rated towing capacity on the 87 octane program and the premium gas towing program.

Then for the "hi-performance" program, you can't tow more than 4000 lbs. *That* one is the one program that message asking about towing more than 4000 lbs. applies to.

Have fun!

So if towing over 400lbs. I would select the High Performance towing tune, correct? This would allow me to tow up to the factory limit with no problem?

When using the 87 Tune you can tow up to the limit of the truck.

With the high performance you can only tow up to 4000 lbs. Other wise it will tune it for Perf/Tow if you are using high performance and are towing more than 4000 lbs.

Bullitt,
what you actually said was "If towing over 400 Lbs". But I knew you meant 4000.

You have full towing capacity on the first 2 programs - the 87 octane tune (program 1), and the premium gas towing tune (program 2).

Then for Program 3, which is called the "hi-performance" tune in the 1714 Micro Tuner and requires premium gas, you cannot tow more than 4000 lbs.

So if you are going to tow heavy loads & still want maximum power, drop back to Program 2 - the premium gas towing program - for maximum power and full rated towing capacity.

Good luck!
