Laptop Link to the F150's CPU
Does anyone have information on linking your laptop to the CPU????
I would like to be able to see and record data as I'm driving. I had seen this type of setup once a few years back in HOT ROD MAG, but I haven't seen it since. It had customer graphs for viewing almost anything the cpu has inputs from.

There is a device that will connect you to the CPU. It connects to the OBD connection and has a serial connection on the other end.
If you have a 9100 tuner this cord comes with the tuner. Auto Tap provides one with their equipment.
And you can build one. Serial or USB on one end and a connector that fits the OBD Data Link on the other end.
However, unless you have the software you won't be able to log anything. Auto Tap is about $290 with the ford enhanced codes. You could try the scan guage for about $100. Several guys here have bought this and seem pleased but I don't think it logs anything just read outs.
Perform search for "scan guage" with the search button at upper right.
I believe Super Chips makes a data logging device called "Raptor"
Check with Mike Troyer Performance Products.
He handles all this stuff. Call 540-862-9515, ask for Anita.

As 'rg...' mentioned, Autotap dignostic software is available and works well for data logging or other diagnostic work from simply reading dtc to tracking fuel trims, usw. Just load up the software, plug into your laptop and you are ready to go. I've had it now for several years and love it.

I bought the Scanguage and am happy with it. It plugs into the OBD II port and reads check engine light codes plus rpm's, volts, mpg, temp and many more. You can get four readings on one screen.
See it at www.scanguage.com
Anything more comlicated and you are looking at Autotap.

Hi mrjam,
What you're talking about is referred to as "datalogging," & yes, we carry packages that will allow you to easily & quickly connect to your vehicle's PCM thru the OBD-II port and see it's operations by using your laptop PC - we do this all the time in our tuning work, of course.
Give us call at our number listed below & we can go over all of this with you in proper detail - there are several different packages ranging from less expensive all the way to literally the quickest throughput datalogger that exists, depending on just how much throughput you need, you want to be able to see & log, etc., & we handle all of that. Many of our customers (like Bob, who responded to you as well) use AutoTap, for example, as it's powerful and easy to use, and will do everything you're talking about and more.
Because we do so much custom tuning, many of our customers pick up these packages from us as they need to be able to datalog to evaluate for tuning changes, etc., so this is an easy to do these days for anyone with a laptop.
Just give us a shout at our number listed below when you get a chance & we'll be happy to go over all of this with you.

Hi.
You can also try:
http://www.scantool.net/index.htm
You can build it, inexpensively, or buy a kit.
Sofware varies with capability and price; some is freeware, some is shareware, and some are retail packages. There are links on the site that take you to the s/w offerings.
This ODB-II interface can be built for many types of vehicles, depending upon which protocol is required. At the moment, I don't think CAN is supported.
So, if you are handy with a soldering iron and enjoy a challenge, this one is fun!
Not to be confused with higher end packages.
cheers
