Should have reminded him that along with "a shift", he's missing a few cylinders. Good kill.

I guess that "missed shift" is what's hurting his power-to-weight ratio?

HI!... Well guys I got ANOTHER "victim" on SUNDAY night. JMC and I were cruising around, when we turned on to a long stretch of familiar road. JMC turned 1st and stomped on it. I turned 2d and went to "WARP" speed!LOL! The top of 1st gear I caught JMC as usual and when I got into 2nd was pulling away from him pretty hard. Well I let off and we both were cruising next to each other at about 50mph, when we came up on and passed two young kids in a late "70's" CAMARO Z-28. It had wide tires on the back and little skinney's on the front, traction bars, and a loud exhaust. Well I got up to a red light 1st with JMC right behind me. There was a ordinary car on my left and the CAMARO pulled up in the FAR left lane. This road is a 3 laner. I did'nt see any of this but JMC told me about it later. Apparently the guys in the CAMARO had freinds in a SATURN right behind them and the driver of the CAMARO was pointing over his roof at my truck and making like he was going to SHUT ME DOWN. I did'nt see any of this because I was too busy turning my radio up because the CAMARO was rumbling so loud. This CAMARO must of had a really radical cam in it because it was really thumping! I thought to myself that he might want to race but I figured that the way this CAMARO sounded that he would totally kick my a$$! Well the light turned green and I left as usual, waiting for him to jump on it. Well all of a sudden I heard him rev up and I dropped my truck into 1st gear and punched it, so did he! At the top of 1st gear I was waiting for him to blow by me but nothing! Then I toped out in 2nd gear and still no CAMARO! Finally I had to start turning to get on my on ramp, but I kept into it just to be sure he was'nt still coming. About 2 miles down the expressway and on to a side street, I stopped so JMC could catch up to me. This is when JMC told me about what the CAMARO's driver was doing with his hand. Apparently I smoked this CAMARO by about 5 truck lengths ans was really pulling away from him untill I got on the on ramp. The CAMARO ended up going straight. I guess that proves "ALL SHOW AND, NO GO!" LOL! I'm going to look for this guy this weekend, hoping I can get another run with him.

By the way guys I finally got my JBA headers installed last SATURDAY! Took me about 3-1/2 start to finish. My twin DERALE 16 inch electric fans are going on this weekend. I got to get this truck ready for the MILAN MEET on SEPTEMBER 30TH!

Talking

Well i got my first and second victory in the same night. First one proved that my 00 is a lot faster than my 92 was.
1)An early 80's f250 reg cab(460 ??) used to pull on me with my 92 up to about 75 or so, I came up behind him last night at a light. Yep, he was willing to go. I had to feather the pedal and wait for him to pass the pokies, then I stomped it and dusted him all around. Next light of coarse he was behind me reving his motor, same ol' same ol'.
2) Was at this same time at the second light a 99 or newer chevy 1500 4x4 sc Z71( 3:73 ?? )gears was apparently willing to run also, he took me by a half truck length out of the trap but after the revs built i pulled next to and up a half a truck on him then it was even up till he backed out at a turn off. He could have had the small v-8 , but I really think it was the 5.3 as most every one in Minn gets that motor. Oh, poor 80's ford was left eating crow. Thanks, benny

Question

Hey Neal,

Where did you find the twin 16 inch Derale? I can't find their website or anything over 14 inches at a parts website. Living in Houston, we see quite a few 100 plus degree summer days and I am curious to see if I can find a fan that will keep my truck cool enough to let me regain the H.P. robbed by the stock fan and clutch. I'm also curious to know what you think about your pulley set? I've got a set of coated headers on the way as I try to inch closer to the 300 H.P. mark. Sorry to hit you up for info on the kill pages, but I wasn't really sure how else to flag you down. Thanks for your help.

HI!... LITTLERICKY : I got my twin 16" DERALE electric fans from SUMMIT RACING. The ASP power pulleys are great. I hav'nt had any problems with them at all, towing or racing. I finally got my PHANTOM water temp guage installed last weekend and my truck never runs over 190 degrees. I will be installing the twin electric fans this weekend and will let you know how the truck likes them tempurature wise.

Hey Neal,

Just goes to show that a "rumpity-rump" cam by itself doesn't mean a whole lot. He might not have had the cam degreed in properly, or who knows what was going on.

Pretty bad when a 2-ton pickup truck smokes a "hot-rod Camaro", eh?

Be careful up there you guys,

This isn't a dig against ya benny, but I was reading your story thinking it was Neal and when I read the part about you being even with the silverado I almost fainted. I was about to go out and buy one of them chevys.

Wow, got my chip installed and took it for a spin at night and caught up with my neighbor who owns a 96 Ram 1500 RC Short Bed with 5.2L at a stop light who wanted to run for the heck of it. It was a really sad run. I hit around 105 and he was about 20 lengths behind me. He cried when we got home. God I love this truck. I previously owned a ram 1500 v6. Big difference.

Hi 98Nastruck,

The Superchip really wakes up those lighter Nastrucks, giving a nice performance boost. It makes the same power gains in all the 4.6 F-150's, 26 hp & 40 lbs./ft. of torque, but in the lighter Nastruck it makes more of a difference, just due to the power-to-weight ratio results.

I'm glad you got your installation done, and are getting a chance to enjoy it over the Labor Day weekend, that's always fun.

Be careful on the streets,

HI!... Well guys I don't know what to call this one! A "victory", a "defeat", or a "draw"! I think I'm going to call it a "DRAW"!LOL! JMC and I were out for a cruise around 2:00A.M, when we got up too a 3 laned red light. I was on the far right, JMC was next to me and then there was a guy in a WHITE "93" IROC CAMARO, 350 (5.7), 5-SPEED, POSI, in the far left lane. It was obvious that he wanted to run. Well the guy in the CAMARO jumped the light slightly before it turned green. The time I hit the gas (HARD), he was already one full car length on me! This is a very slippery intersection for my truck for some reason, it always has been. I literly bounced off my 1st gear rev limiter about 3 times and spun all the way across the intersection and well on to the other side of it! By the time I started to get good traction the CAMARO was already 2 full car lengths in front of me! When I topped out in 1st gear I had already made up one full car length on him. I shifted into 2nd gear and started pulling on him slightly! The time I tached out in 2nd gear I was dead even with him and very slightly pulling on him! He let off early because the next light way off turned red. I turned right at that light and so did JMC. (Our normal cruising route) I think if we had both started off at the same time and I did'nt spin so bad that I probably would have beat by about 1-2 truck lengths in a 1/4 mile. Well I hope I can get a chance at a rematch this weekend with him.

By the way guys I finally got my twin electric fans installed today and I find that my engine revs up a hell of a lot quicker now! For those of you who wanted to know, with just the 1st fan running my engine does not ever go over 190 degree's. Most of the time it runs around about 180-185 degree's. That's with a PERMA COOL electric thermastat.

Hi, nastruck. I was real surprised to be able to stay with the Z71, but as i stated he could have had the 4.8 L? I never got the chance to talk to him.I would venture a bet though that it was the 5.3L as here in mineapolis, Minn. most of the dealers only order the 5.3L . It also could have benn a 99, I don't know how to tell the differance between the 99 and 00 yet.
I have a friend who has the 99 5.3L , and has towed my boat fishing a few times. It seemed to labor a lot on the hills.
My tip to Canada 2 weeks ago took us up some large hills( a 95 suburban was wide open in 2nd to make it) and my 00 only down shifted out of over drive. I would think long about the choice of a chevy, if you are looking for gas mileage only go with the chevy. Well thanks for the reply, Benny

HI!... BROTHERDAVE : I think you are thinking of the new style CAMARO's. The one that I ran was the older style, last year of that style to be exact. It was white and had the spoiler with the 3rd brake light between two bars, 5 star factory rims, 5.7 liter, 5-speed. I could very possibly have the year wrong, I'm not a CHEVY person. It could of been a "92" mabey. All I know is that this style CAMARO runs high 14's to really low 15's. My buddy has a red one and it's best time has been 14.90's with 4.10 gears. I will be taking the truck to the SEPT 30TH "MILAN MEET" and am hoping to break into the very high 14's, with my stock 30" tall tires. I wish I could find someone that is going to the "MILAN MEET" that has 28.5" tall tires or smaller that would let me borrow them for a couple of runs. Right now I think my tires are really holding my truck back.

By the way the RANGER has'nt been to the track since I took it off the road to re-do it. I figure though that it should go low 10's on the motor and high 9's with the N.O.S.

Hey Neal,

I was hoping you could give me some info on how the Electric fan install went..Like how long did it take, what all was involved...

I have been considering this mod myself, but I wanted to make sure that it is something I could tackle myself..

Thanks
