Mike - question about my 2 previous Superchips
Mike - I still have the Superchips for the 98 Ranger and the 2000 F150 that I purchased from you (both provided great performance by the way).
Can the chip that I used in my 5.4 be programed for the powerstroke. In other words, can they use the same device and just reprogram it for the Powerstroke? I have not looked at the computer for the Powerstroke, so I do not know if the computers are set up the same (size and chip plug in). Thanks for the reply. Ron

F150 is no more - 6/27/01 bought an 01 F250 SuperDuty 4X4, Powerstroke, auto, Lariet, Supercab with everything available. Added a Ford bedliner and bug deflector so far.

Hi Ron,
Those chips you have can be reprogrammed for any just about FoMoCo product *except* a Powerstroke diesel or the V-10 gas engine; those 2 applications take a completely different Superchip module altogether.
However, I'm sure we can work something out for you, so if you'd like to give us a call, we'll find some way to get you into it.
You'll love what our Superchip for the PSD does, adding 60 horsepower and 115 lbs./ft. of torque, while maintaining strict 50-state emissions certification and low EGT's (exhaust gas temperature).
As far as installation of the Superchip for the PSD, that is all the same as what you've already done, the basic method of attachment & installation is the same, etc.
To find the computer code in these Super Duty trucks, open the Driver's door, and then look in between the door hinges, and there you will find the code sticker, 3 letters and 1 number.
Congratulations on your new Powerstroke by the way, and if you don't mind me asking, what made you decide to go diesel?

Hi Mike - I decided to go to a Powerstroke for 2 reasons. First, gas miliage - my 5.4 was getting terrible miliage when towing my 6500-7000 travel trailer, and second, the Powerstroke will be much better towing anything. Also, since I am working in Death Valley now, and still have my home in Southern California, I put a lot of miles on the truck. F150 was a lease - I bought the Super Duty Powerstroke, so I can put as many miles as I want on it and it will cost me less to operate. Diesel fuel is 40 to 50 cents a gallon cheaper than premium gas in Southern California, so my fuel bills will go way down buying cheaper fuel and getting better mpg. Also like the solid front axle on the 4X4.

Hi Ron,
Ahh, I see, I didn't know you were towing those kinds of loads. Yep, you sure will like the PSD for towing much better, I dare say. Nothing like having over 500 lbs./ft. of torque at 1800 rpm to get your load moving!
Speaking of diesel fuel prices, it wasn't that many years ago that diesel fuel was half the price of regular gasoline, it was like that for my entire life until just here in recent history, so to speak, the last what, 15 years or so, I think. It should be priced still considerably lower than it is now, but you're right, with those kinds of numbers you should be able to see a significant decrease in fuel costs.
You've obviously done your homework here, I hope this works well for you. Is this your first diesel?

Thanks Mike - Yes this is my first diesel and I may not ever own another gasser truck. This thing can pull a house and rides very well.
Oil changes will be interesting with 15 quarts of oil and an oil filter about 3 times larger than the one for my 5.4. Also, if taken care of, these motors will last a minimum of 300,000 miles. Best thing is that it can be used as a grocery getter and is also a great work truck. Just takes a little more room to park.

Hi Ron,
My wife & I went out looking at trucks again today, checked out Powerstrokes left & right. Doesn't look like she's going to go for it, says they're just too big, and right now, we're not towing anything sizeable............
She looked at 350's, 250's, & F150's, of course. She also loves Explorers & we've had a few in the past, right now she's kinda leaning towards a 2001 Explorer Sport Trac. I think they're ugly myself, & would prefer the F-150 by far, if not a PSD.
In the past, we've always known exactly what we wanted pretty much, and there wan't much question by the time we hit the lot. Doesn't look like it's going to be that easy this time!
Ford didn't help by sending her a notice saying if you turn in your lease vehicle early, we'll make the remaining payments left for you. That and this Ranger she currently has needing it's 3rd set of tires in 33K miles are really putting the pressure on to buy now.
Personally, I'd like to see us do an F-150 project truck, with the whole 9 yards, blower, you name it. We'll see what happens, right now it's looking like I'll have a tough time getting her away from that Sport Trac...................
Good luck with your PSD!
