Install and removal
I know the answers are here but my computer is to slow to try and find.
I have a 2001 Supercrew, how long does it take to install the chip and remove if needed. Also, does it require removing the battery for either.
thx

Hi Cooper,
For a first-time installation, figure it's normally a 30-45 minute job basically, though some people do take longer. Some guys post that they took an hour, a few have posted they took them more, but it's basically a 30-45 minute job for a first-timer. Many times they include the amount of time they took to read the directions as well, not just to do the actual work, and our documentation is very thorough, so I guess it all depends on who is doing the installation and how they track the time, is the most honest answer we could give you.
In reality, you can figure that it's a 30-45 minute job. Once you've done 1 of them, you can do the next one in half the time.
Now, once you've installed the Superchip for the first time, you can remove it or replace it very quickly in just a minute or two.
You do not normally need to remove the battery, that is usually necessary only if you have the Offroad package, or perhaps if you have large hands, and in any evetn, this woukld only be required for the first-time installation. In the case of the Offroad package, there will be a pair of solenoids or other components mounted on the firewall over top of the wiring harness connector for the computer, which will partially block your access to it, in which case you will need either a long extention & swivel socket to access the bolt to loosen it, or you can just remove the battery. Pulling the battery takes about 5 minutes coming out, and 5 minutes going back in, so if you have to remove the battery, figure that's going to take you another 10 mintues for the first-time installation.
You do not need to remove the battery anytime other than the first-time installation, and then only if you have components mounted on the firewall above the harness that block your access to it, so this is not something that normally needs to be done, it just depends on the exact equipment on your particular truck.
At any rate, once you've done the first-time installation, you don't have to remove the battery again. You do not need to remove the battery to remove the Superchip, you just disconnect the battery while you're removing the Superchip it, that's all.
If you would like to go over this in more detail, please feel free to give us a call!
