Interesting, hmmm.......I wonder if certain sizes of light truck tires are in short supply right now, what with Ford replacing all those millions of Firestones?
One thing is for sure jstang, he does have a set of mods prone to shortening his tire life rather significantly.

Hey jstang: I ran the strip last week. ET 14.98. I thought I would run a little faster. The tires really didn't burn that much off the line. But I did get a chirp going into 3RD gear.

jstang: I ran at Napierville Dragway in Canada. It's about an hour and 15 Min. from where I live in So. Burlington , VT. I launch powerbraking at 1200 RPM and I let the transmission do the shifting. I believe it shifted at 4900 RPM. Which when I get my chip back from Mike it will be bumped to 5200 RPM. Yea, I also think she has more to put out. I'm still waiting for my shift kit from Baumann. Mailed payment out over 2.5 weeks ago.

Don't powerbrake it, you'll get more stall from the converter if you mash it from an idle. You'll need to play with reaction times, but work on the ET first.the RT has no bearing on the ET.

Hi Guys,
jstang made a very good point and I agree, don't "powerbrake" it, you're just heating up the tranny more than is necessary, and it won't help. If anything, it can slow you down a bit.
You'll get more stall and a better launch from most stock torque converters by just letting it "flash", which is what happens when you sit there at idle and just nail the gas, you get the highest flash stall from it by launching it like that.
Also, how you stage will affect your ET as well, for the quickest ET's stage as "shallow" as possible, so as to increase the roll-out distance. This is the amount of distance your front tires travel from the time you first start moving until the trailing edge of the front tire that is furthest back stops breaking the beam; it's when that beam is no longer interrupted that initiates the start of clock timing.
To stage "shallow", creep the vehicle up until you light the top yellow light on the Christmas tree, that is your "pre-staged" light. Once you light that up, then creep forward very slowly, until you just *barely* light that second yellow beam, which means "fully staged". This gives you maximum roll-out distance, as compared to driving the vehicle further forward in lighting that second yellow, which is called "deep staging".
Experienced drag racers, some of the best of them, can stage differently, based on track conditions, how the vehicle is behaving, how well they can drive & know their vehicle etc., but the basic rule of thumb for most of us is to simply stage "shallow", as this will always give the quickest ET's. You can leave earlier before the green light illuminates, and get a bit of a "jump" on the clocks by staging shallow, as your vehicle will already be in motion when the clocks start their timing of the run.
Shallow staging can knock 1-3 tenths off your ET in these vehicles compared to staging deep.
And yes, once we do the custom program for you, you will have a little bit higher WOT upshift point, which will help ET's with that blower, and then also from the increase in power, so you'll see some ET reductions from the Superchip.
Have fun,

Hi jstang & Mike, The reason I powerbraked it is because In the Art Carr catalog it says: "For best off the line results we recommend "brake starting." Apply enough throttle pressure to achieve a "high idle" while holding the brake. DO NOT OVER REV! This "high idle" technique allows pressure to build in the torque converter, and will not harm your engine or transmission." Now you guys have gotten me a little confused. Does the shift kit also increase torque converter pressure? If so, I wouldn't think I would have to do that when I get my shift kit in because it increases the line pressure already. Can you guys enlighten me some more.
