Hi Expy69,
The truth of the matter is that there are a number of brands of gasoline that can do a fine job.
We happen to like the brands that FordFaithful mentioned in his response to you, Texaco, Amoco & Citgo, as in most areas of the country, more often than not, they tend to be among the best in terms of energy content, as you mentioned, and also have excellent quality detergent additives.
Other brands can sometimes do a good job too. For example, out the in Western US, like Oregon, & Southern California, Chevron seems to be doing a good job. Out here in the East, Shell seems pretty good too.
If you ever want to try and determine (as best we layman can) which gasoline in your particular area has the highest energy content, you can use 3-5 tanks of each brands, and carefully compare the mileage results for each tank of each brand. It generally takes 3-5 tanks to really get an accurate "sample", just 1 or 2 tanks really isn't enough to check out each brand, so we will use 3-5 tanks of each brand when we do that. The gasoline with the highest mpg (in the same driving conditions) is generally the gasoline with the highest energy content.
Remember, there are no "absolutes" along these lines, we simply try to let people know what brands seem to be doing the best job, more often than not. It's a bit of a moving target in these days of ever-changing fuel formulations.
Brands to steer clear of are Exxon (clean but very low energy), and of course any of the off-brands or "no-name" fuels, like Coastal, Sheetz, Racetrack, etc., they're all generally of lower energy content.
I hope that helps & good luck!

Hi Moose-man,
I'd agree with your "list" too, Texaco is my all-time favorite, while Chevron is doing an excellent job in Southern California as well as other areas out West there, such as Oregon & Washington as well.
Some places in Southern California don't have Texaco readily available, and in that case, Chevron should do just fine.
Good choices, moose-man!
