Mike, Belts making noises
I installed the super chip last week. I love it. The only thing that I ahve noticed is that when the truck shifts from 1st to 2nd gear I get a squeling or slipping sound of the belts. I was wondering if anyone else has this and what is a way to solve it?
Hi Tack!
Actually, that's somewhat normal during a full-throttle upshift on the 1-2 if a vehicle has some miles on it, and it's just a worn belt that has stretched a bit, and slips on full-throttle 1-2 upshifts thanks to those shifts now executing quicker and the transmisison slipping considerably less, just as it should with the Superchip. Just a little audible confirmation of the Superchip working.
I'd suggest using some belt dressing on the belt if this is a new vehicle with few miles on it. If not, then just replace the belt, as it's time anyway if belt dressing doesn't take care of it. If it's an older vehicle with some miles on it, you can just go ahead and replace the belt, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to have the belt tensioner checked to see if it's worn, as they do wear as miles accumulate.
This won't hurt anything, it's just a brief slip of the belt on the heavy-throttle 1-2 shift. If your vehicle is new, then belt dressing should help that. If it's got some miles on it, then go ahead and replace the belt, as it's stretched over time, and with the Superchip, it will slip a bit thanks to the quicker shifts & reduced transmission slippage.
Have fun,

My Screw did the same thing. Apparently the factory installed belt has some issues. When I took the truck in for my new radiator, they put in what they called a "redesigned" belt. Hasn't made a sound since.

I've heard of breaking the tires loose on upshifts, but never the fan belt; those Superchips *must* ru-L!!!
