Superchip / Gas Mileage
Hi Larryb423,
Welcome to F-150 Online!
That will depend on how you drive the vehicle and hte energy content of the premium fuel you use with the Superchip (required) versus the energy content of the regular gas you were previously using.
For most people driving a mix of city & highway, 15K-20K miles per year, the additional fuel cost average only about $150-$200 per year, or a few bucks a week. SOme people pay almost no extra fuel cd some pay a bit more, it just depends on how you drive it and the quality of gasoline being used, and octane has little to do with actual fuel *quality*, like energy content, detergent additives, etc.
For those who can keep their foot out of the throttle after installing the Superchip, they average about 1.5-23.0 more mpg on average. If you drive it harder, you know what happens, you'll get less mileage, of course, that will always be the case with any vehicle.
For those who are concerned about fuel costs, we also offer a 2-program Superchip Flip Chip that we can set up with a pair of programs, one for 87 octane and the other for 92 octane, and that way, you can have ultimate flexibility. The power gain on the 87 octane side will of course be small, 3-5 horsepwoer, but it will still make the vehicle respond and accelerate a bit quicker. Then when you want the full power gain, fill it up with premium and flip the attached switch.
It's important to remember that the Superchip is a *performance* chip, first and foremost, there really is no such thing as a "gas mileage chip" per se. The potential for mileage gains in the Superchip (and there certainly is potential there) for these gas engines is merely a by-product of the increased spark advance used on part-throttle as par of our performance tuning for premium gasoline.
If you'd like to go over this in more detail, etc. please feel free to give us a call, we're always happy to speak with you.
Congratulations on your first Ford truck & good luck with it! We hope you'll hang out here with us when you have spare time, it's a great place to hang out, learn about these vehicles & meet new friends.

Hello all, I'm also new to the F150 Online community. This new F150 Supercrew is my first Ford product. I'm a former Toyota owner. What type of affect will the chip have on fuel mileage? I already am looking at lots of $$$ at the pump now even using 87 octane. I currently drive 1/2 hiway and 1/2 city and get 16 mpg with everything stock. I am careful not to be heavy footed on starts too.
Thanks for the reply Mike.
I will see if I can get time this week to give ya a call. I'll be traveling the first part of the week. It's odd to me that if Ford knows that they can get this much more potential from the engine that they don't use your chip or their own version from the factory! I believe I read in another post that installing this chip won't void my warranty. That is correct...right?? I have the Elite extended warranty..7 years / 100,000 miles. I usually drive a vehicle that long.

Hi Larryb,
Well, that is a question that has come up here many, many times, and the answer is simply this: Ford *could* do all this from the factory, just like GM could, but they both choose not to, primarily because of the effect it would have on sales of these vehicles. If Ford tuned these vehicles specifically for premium gas from the factory to get the power from them that we do, and nobody could ever run regular gas, then that could have a big impact on the sales numbers of the F-150. We're talking about the worlds biggest selling vehicle of any kind for the 18th year in a row now, with 750,000 of them built every year, so Ford isn't going to mess with that equation, not by a long shot!
A *lot* of F-150's are purchased by fleet buyers every year, big construction companies, all kinds of companies use them, and Ford isn't about to alienate any of those customers, they're going to do what they think it takes to keep building & selling 750,000 and hopefully even more, every model year.
With regards to how they have their automatic transmissions calibrated to shift so slow & soft with all tehslippage that induces, that too is done deliberately, they have their soft-shift strategies in place to deliver what they think the female buyer wants, a vehicle that is so smooth that you can't even feel the shifts! Unfortunately, that requries all kinds of compromises that negatively impact performance and driveabiity for we enthusiasts, and so the aftermarket has responded to fill that need, just like with most vehicles.
There hasn't been any mass-produced vehicle I know of that couldn't benefit from some smart aftermarket upgrades, and I suspect it will always be that way, hopefully.
And no, the Superchip will not void your new veheicle or extended warranty.
