Reprogram Superchip?
Hi Dan!
Sure, that's a potential issue with any 1996 or newer vehicle, they all have flash ECU's from 1996 on up, and so they can be reflashed at a dealership if there is a specific issue that can be remedied by a different factory program, like in this TSB you mentioned.
If your ECU is reflashed to a different code, then normally what happens is when you put the Superchip back in, the vehicle won't start due to the code mis-match. What we do is have you to send in your Superchip, along with the new calibration code, and then we can simply reprogram the Superchip to match, and you're back up and running again with the Superchip. The only cost for us to do that for our customers is the return shipping to get your Superchip back to you, we've always had that policy, for that very reason.
Now, to find out what your new code is, that info will need to come from the dealership. They are required by emissions laws (though they don't alwasy do it) to place what's called a "Notice of Modification" sticker under the hood in a prominent location, and it's a white sticker, 2 inches high by about 3 inches wide. They will write in by hand the new calibration code on that sticker, which will be 11-14 digits long. As long as we have that info, along with the original computer code (the 3 letters and 1 number code you originally gave us), then we can do the cross-reference and reprogram the Superchip accordingly.

Thanks, Mike. I'll print this and put it with my owners manual in case this ever happens. I'm 45 and can't simply rely on memory any more. Hopefully, I can remember to look in the owners manual.
Thanks again
Thanks again
Hi Dan,
Sounds like a plan, and don't feel bad, some days I wish I were 45 again! Actually, being 30 again would be more like it, as 45 really wouldn't be a big change for me.
Have fun,

I just read the following TSB. If I ever had the problem listed, I would need to take my chip out before I took the truck in for service. But, would the chip require reprogramming, or would I undo the reprogramming done by the dealer? Part of the TSB is a table and it wouldn't display correctly, but here is the bulk of TSB 01-11-7:
FORD: 2001 ECONOLINE, EXPEDITION, F-150
ISSUE:
Some vehicles equipped with a 4R70W automatic transmission exhibiting a no forward or a delayed engagement may have a damaged forward clutch. This may be caused by rapid, Drive (D) to Reverse (R) engagements before the automatic transmission fluid reaches a normal operating temperatures and by Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibration causing a lack of Forward Clutch pressure and insufficient lubrication.
ACTION:
Verify forward clutch failure. In order to prevent reoccurrence, the (PCM) should be reprogrammed to the latest level calibration as part of the forward clutch repair procedure. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Follow normal diagnostic procedures and verify the condition.
If the condition is valid, first repair all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that may be present
Then repair all internal transmission components as required.
Clear all DTCs and validate the repair.
Follow the procedures found in the Powertrain Control/ Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Workshop Manual and reprogram the PCM to the latest level calibration. Refer to the following PCM Calibration Information chart.

2001 4X2 Supercrew, 5.4L, 3.55 LS Axle LT245/75R-16D Tires Class III Towing
K&N Filter, Gibson Swept Side Exhaust, Superchip
