Mike, 1715 and a ported blower...

Mike I have your 4lb pulley and 1715 and AFO and its been great.
Can the 1715 (HP4) keep up with a Apten port along with these mods??? or do I need

the 9100 SCT. thanks Clay

You'll need to datalog it to find out, basically - but no, I wouldn't run it like that.

We don't recommend using the 1715 in a custom scenario, as it's HP4 tune is an "off the shelf" tune designed for a Lightning with a stock blower that has a 4PSI pulley and that's it - it's by no means meant to be used for a "custom" situation with a ported blower & the significantly elevated engine loads (ve) that result from running a ported M112 with a raised boost pulley.

The first problem is that you can probably count on needing to upgrade the stock MAF with those kind of CFM's, as most likely you are peaking the stock factory MAF. Once the MAF is changed, you'll of course need to datalog with the new MAF to see just what's up & have it's transfer function dialed in via custom tuning so the vehicle is achieving commanded A/F and is safe to drive. Sometimes, with some aftermarket MAF's, as long as the injector size is not changed you won't be too far off in terms of the transfer function - but you'll need to datalog properly to determine, that cannot be assumed.

In short - no, I don't feel your current configuration is adequate or even safe above about 80 mph or so @ WOT, as it's probably peaking the MAF pretty quickly once you're in 3rd - my '01 L peaked it in 2nd with a ported M112!

This is far too detailed to get into via typing on a message board, so you'll want to give us a call to go over the datalogging, custom tuning & the MAF upgrade that will most likely be needed. Just give us a shout when you get a chance & I'll go over all of that with you, OK?

Good luck & talk to you soon Clay,

thanks Mike. theres alot of info floating around on the net ...like a 90MM maf can handle up to 500hp with tuning...

get the PRO-MASS 95MM , SCT 9100, through you with your tune and have Apten port my blower.....bolt on plug in and go.

Hi Clay,

There's a *lot* of variance in the Lightnings - one truck may get up to 485+ HP at the wheels without peaking the stock 90mm MAF, we have seen that happen - not often, but we have seen it. Then another truck will peak it by say, 440 RWHP on the same day & dyno. There's *that* much variance, which is why we always tell people they'll need to datalog if they want to determine that for their individual vehicle.

The smart tip is to just let us supply the Pro-M 95mm unit along with our tuning for the ported blower, as more often than not in our experience with a well-ported M112 and a 4-6 PSI pulley & other bolt-ons, you can peak the stock MAF pretty quick - some will go further, but overall not many seem to go beyond 450 RWHP or so on an accurate dyno. Another point is that we won't tune around a saturated MAF meter like some will.

I like what you listed for the guy with a ported M112 & say, a 4-6 PSI pulley and some other bolt-ons, still running 42# injectors - running the Pro-M 95mm MAF cal'd for 42#'s works well to get more CFM range, enough to really lean on that ported blower - and the A/F's usually don't vary much from commanded so it's quick & easy to tune. Just a quick datalog after the custom tune is installed to confirm MAF voltage & A/F's - in that configuration, our original baseline custom tune is usually pretty much spot-on. That's a very workable solution at those power levels.

Have fun,
