FIPK - Which filter?
What filter does the FIPKs use? Do they use the same K&N filter as the stock airbox on a 4.2? Or do they come with a new filter?

The Airaid uses a K&N, but it is a different model # and not interchangeable with the replacement filter K&N sells for your stock airbox. The FIPK does come with a new filter.

Hi Bill,
As the others mentioned, the drop-in replacement K&N air filter that goes in the factory airbox cannot be used with any of the airbox elimination kits, whether it's the K&N FIPK, the Airaid, or the Air Force 1 unit. Any of those airbox elimination kits already includes its own filter element that is conical in shape. K&N and Airaid both use K&N air filter elements, while Air Force 1 uses the S&B filter, which is the same basic type of filter element as the K&N, just a different brand.
Most people who have been using the drop-in K&N filter who then upgrade to one of the airbox elimination kits will either put that drop-in K&N filter up on the shelf, or even better, offer it for sale here in the Classifieds, someone will want it.
Good luck!
