Superchip vs. Hypertech
Superchip vs. Hypertech
I was wondering if anyone has done a side by side comparisson of the two? I know Mike is knowledgable (but biased to SC)
I just spent time going back thru past posts and might have missed if this has been done before. I spoke with a guy here at my local 4wheel shop (they had both chips for sale) and he recommended the Hyper.
I have a 03 F-150 5.4. Just curious here, not looking to start a flame war of any sort.

Sorry Tim, but you're dead wrong - I am not "biased," nor do I appreciate such a claim - especially from someone who has zero knowledge or experience in this area, and who doesn't know me from the man in the moon.
I suggest using the Search feature and spending some time reading the comparison posts - both ours and other members here - and you'll quickly see just what the reality actually is.
We use what works the best, period - it's just that simple.
If Hypertech did a better job, that's what we'd be using and recommending - they don't, and never have in these vehicles, thus we don't use or recommend them. We test them (and most others) annually, just as we have for years, and the results are the Superchips tuning makes more power gain, delivers better performance, and a better shift calibration in the automatics compared to Hypertech.
Now if you are actually interested in getting the BEST results, then that is not had with either Hypertech or Superchips tuning, but instead, is had with *our custom tuning* (even for a bone-stock vehicle). Once again, there are plenty of posts here comparing Hypertech, Diablo, Superchips "standard" performance tuning and then *our* custom tuning - our custom tuning beats them all hands down, with larger power gains & better ET's, more towing power, better shift characteristics, etc.
We've been performance-tuning these F-150's for longer than anyone else (aside from Ford), having specialized in them for 12 years. We've tuned more of them, in more different states of modification, than anyone else we know of - and it shows in our results, which is why more F-150 owners come to us for their tuning.
If you have interest in the facts, feel free to do some reading here from those who have spent their hard-earned money & posted their results & impressions so you can educate yourself a bit - or you can always give us a call at our number listed below & we can go over this with you, if you like.
Best of luck whatever you decide,

I stand corrected.
After an hour+ on the phone with you this evening I have great respect for your product and you as a person.
We will continue our conversation tomorrow!
Have a good evening

Tim,
To answer your question about side by side comparisons, if you were to search through back articles of the popular truck mags, you would find that several of the big player mags have done that side by side comparison.
If you would bear with me, I would relate my experiences with Mr. Troyer and truck mods in general.
When I bought my '98 F-150, I thought it was rather 'peppy' and the price was good.......and it was way more truck than my old '91 S-10. I new nothing of computer chips, fuel injectors or Air force 1 intake systems. I don't want to bore you too much here, but by accident I found this website and started reading and reading some more. I called Mr. Troyer and asked about this Air Force 1 and Superchip. He gave me some info and I bought nothing from him.
I then stopped into my local four wheel shop and asked about intake systems "We use K & N here.... been using it for years......never heard of Air Force 1". I also asked about Superchips.....I was told that they carried Hypertech and they could get me one if I wanted. I asked about testing. Had they, the biggest shop shop in the area ever tested any of these competing brands? They told me that they had been around for a long time and knew what worked. I haven't been back since. It seemed to me that they were just banging the cash register, and didn't care what made the most power.
I stopped at the local Ford performance shop and asked about what parts made the MOST power. They had never heard of Air Force 1, but they carried Superchips. I asked if custom tuning was required If I was to install bigger fuel injectors. they assured me they could install new fuel injectors at $90/hr. They "didn't know about any custom tuning".
My point is simply this: my experience with my local shops is they probably carry the items that do the most advertising in the truck mags and probably deliver the most profit with no regard to what items are best, and nobody around here does any testing at all.
My advice to you is this go back a year in this computer chips section and just start reading these posts. Certain names will start popping up and Mr. Troyer's detailed answers will really educate you. I guarantee that 10-15 hours of reading here will really educate one about what parts work and what parts don't. Several individuals did their own tests and commented on their personal experience with different chips.
I would also encourage you to call Mr. Troyer and ask specific questions. He can communicate far faster and answer particular questions on the phone than is possible by typing responses to posts - at least that was my experience.
Oh, by the way, the correct mods work. Four years ago I had one average truck. Now after several thousand dollars I have one of the fastest NA trucks in the county, and I still agrue with the mechanics at work about the value of custom tuning, faithfully changing fuel filters and O2 sensors among other topics.

Thanks for the input. It is interesting the amount of slant you can see at local shops. I stopped by another shop today and heard a whole different story.
Funny thing was one guy was tellng me the unshielded K&N was just as good as one that was shielded. It is a well known fact that to be effective you need to pull cold (or cooler) air. If you have an open filter in the engine bay you are just pulling hot air which is just counter productive.
I have been plowing thru more articles this weekend and gleaning tons of good info.
Thanks again for the feedback.

Tim,
If you stop to think about it the only comparative research you will find will be from some one who bought a chip and was not satisfied with the performance or customer service or what ever and switched to another brand. And that will be biased towards the new chip because of the disdain of the previous product.
My research dates back to 1997 and it is with a Jet chip. The only reason I went with Jet was that I was waiting for Superchips to release the chip for the 97 4.6 w/5spd. When it came out I was called by Mike and he sent me one. It was night and day. Ever since then I have had my vehicles tuned by Mike. He knows his shït. I can not afford to go out and purchase a Hypertech just to compare it to Mike's custom tune. He uses his own vehicles as test mules and if he says XYZ works better than ZEF then I believe him. Mike updated a tune on my chip, see sig for vehicle, based on a dyno that I had done and the difference between the tunes was just amazing. I used to race a friend with a 1994 5.0 F-150 4x2 reg cab long box with 4.10 gears and he would beat me by about 8 trucks. After the tune I was at his door. Do I even want to test a hypetcech?
