Chip and exhasut, mike...anyone........Bueller?
I just had a new muffler installed (see spintech post under exhaust), I have read here that it takes the trucks EEC some time to copensate for it. I was wondering how long this may take, and what should I expect. I did notice the the truck has a rougher idle when in gear, like when at a stoplight. Will this go away or is it a result of less backpressure? all opinions welcome. thanks

Hi jstang,
Well, that can happen sometimes, and normally we just suggest clearing the computer once again, like you did after installing the Superchip, so the ECU can go back thru it's basic relearn cycle again, and start it's adaptive strategy adjustments from scratch.
Usually these rough idle issues will clear up within about 20 miles, though every once in awhile it will take more like 50-70 miles or so to clear up.
Many times, tehre is no idle quality deterioration from changing intake or exhaust components like that, but soetiems we'll see a bit of a deficit pick up, so we'd suggest just doing a reset, or clearing the computer. The way we do that is to disconnect the battery, turn on the headlights for 5 minutes, then turn the headlights back off & re-connect the battery.
Your idle should be back up to snuff within 50-70 miles if not even sooner.
If you do not do this, then it could take a few hundred miles for the idle to clear up.
This is assuming that you haven't had something like an O2 sensor go marginal just coincidentally at the same approximate time.
Good luck, & let us know what happens!
