Hi wittom,

Well then, welcome to the club, I say, as I can be stubborn myself, I think most of us can be from time to time, so you're not alone by a long shot! Don't give it a thought.

I'm glad we were able to go over that for everyone's benefit.

Hi pgio,

You know, we've been doing this a long time, and I think that's a first!

I'm glad you found the oil cap at home rather than on the road when filling up for gas and checking the oil, etc. You might not have had engine damage result, but at the very least you sure could have had a mess under the hood there, and a missing oil cap flying off and ending up who-knows-where on the side of the highway!

Sorry to hear your service department was that sloppy, I'm sure you'll let them know about it.

Good luck on your trip, hope those winds calm down soon!

This is the first time I am writing. I have a 2001 4.6 with a surging idle problem. The dealer can't find it. Would the super chip eliminate this problem. I drive easy and get 16 mpg.

Hi Beans,

First, welcome to F-150 Online!

Second, I wouldn't want to make any guarantee that the Superchip is going to "cure" a surging idle, though we did just have a gentleman recently who said that problem went away after installing the Superchip, but that may very well have been coincidental. We do get frequent comments about the idle quality improving, in terms of it's actual smoothness, after installing the Superchip, and that's just a by-product of the changes made to the fuel curves to compensate for the slower burn rate of premium gas.

In other words, while many do comment on a "smoother" idle quality, I wouldn't count on the Superchip fixing a *mechanical* problem, and this should be properly diagnosed first, in my opinion. I don't know just how bad this surging is, minor, agravating, etc.

Your service department should be able to take care of this for you, unless it's just the ordinary inherent idle "shake" that some of the mod motors seem to exhibit.

This could be caused by a number of things, and I'm assuming that your dealership has already scanned your computer for error codes, and done at least cursory diagnosis.

One thing that is causing idle surge problems is the Idle Air Control valve, or IAC. That is a frequent culprit, and your dealer should have checked for that as well. From there you can check things like seeing if the hot wires in your mass airflow meter are dirty, etc. These too, are all things that your dealer should have checked for.

It's tough to diagnose your problem here on the message boards of course, though I'm sure you'll get some good suggestions, as this is a great place to hang out and learn of outher's similar experiences with these vehicles, etc. Though we'd love to see you using the Superchip naturally, I wouldn't expect the Superchip to *cure* this problem for you.

You might want to see about taking it in to another dealership service department for further diagnostic work.

Best of luck, and please do let us know if & when the culprit is found, it might help someone else here!

Good luck Beans,
