Question Superchip question?

I have a 99 F150 4x4 with the 5.4 and 3.73:1 gears. I noticed a few of you talking about a flip chip that allowed you to choose whether to run on 87 or 92+ octane fuel with the flip of a switch, but on the online order form, it didn't show an option for ordering a flip chip for my truck. Can I get one, and what do I do to get it? Also, can any of you give me any idea of what kind of time gains I will get w/ the chip through the 1/4 mile and 0-60mph time sessions?

Just give Mike T a call - he's the Superchip man!

As far as performance increase goes - the Assometer says its faster but I haven't clocked it.

Cool

the option for the flip chip is there...it's just that instead of saying flip chip it says flip chip for lightning or something like that. just click on that and you should be on your way...

Hi rabbitt03,

In our online ordering system, you'll simply select the Flip Chip. It does still say for the Lightning, but don't worry about that, as you get further into the system there will be drop-down boxes where you can enter your specific year, make, & model, and even a category for "Other" as well.

Sorry for the confusion, we're in the process of doing some changes to that, but in the meantime, that is what you select.

If you have any other questions on this, or would just like to go over details, etc., please feel free to give us a call, we're happy to go over anything you like.

With regards to the gains you will get in the 1/4 mile and your 0-60 times, that all depends on just how much that vehicle weighs, as there is well over 3000 lbs. of potential weight difference in all the various configurations of F-150 available.

For example, in Neal's 1999 5.4 F-150, he dropped .61 off his 1/4 mile times in a direct, back-to-back comparison at his local drag strip. On average, you can expect anywhere from 3 to 5 tenths of a second reduction in your 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. Some people see more, we've seen as much as 7-8 tenths, up to a full second off the 1/4 mile time of a few F-150's, but that's above average, of course. Overall, 3-5 tenths is the effective average for 5.4 F-150's, depending on vehicle configuration & weight.

The gains when running on the 87 octane side of our Flip Chip are of course going to be smaller. The vehicle will still accelerate quicker of course, thanks to the small power gain (about 3-5 hp peak gain on 87 octane) and the vastly improved automatic transmission programming.

If you want to do that kind of testing, you are going to have to use a very specific procedure to test that accurately with the Superchip, so if you use our online ordering system to place your order, it would be a good idea for you to ask us for our "Drag Racing Tips Sheet for Lighting Owners" in the small text box in that online system where you can leave us a short message. If you decide to call us to place the order, which is of course fine by us, please be sure to ask us for that information to be sent out with your Flip Chip, so you can use the same procedure that we use for back-to-back testing when changing programs in the ECU.
