theft light and no start

ive had a superchip flip for over a year all of a sudden the
truck died and wouldnt start, it would just crank and the theft light was flashing? i took the chip out and the truck is fine.
i was told the chip was probably loose and that the duct tape
holding it in gets hot and stretches.i reinstalled the chip
after blowing off the contacts ,retapped it in tight and started
the truck ,i never even moved the truck and it shut of and did
the same thing.im guessing its not loose so what else could it be?
is the chip bad ? do i need to scuff the contacts again?
this happen to anyone else?

trashguy,

Yes. I'd try re-cleaning all the contacts and reinstalling.

Good Luck,
Bill

Hi trashguy,

That can happen even after *years* of operation with no problems, if the connector is not properly cleaned during original installation & the chip not taped to the PCM.

Use the SEARCH feature here to retrieve & read exactly how to go back over that Superchip installation (particularly how to clean the connector, as you have to clean not just the contacts, but you must remove 100% of all conformal coating from every bit of surface areas on the PCM's connector that is covered by the slot of the Superchip when it's installed!), as it requires more documentation than what the manufacturer provides to do it right (which is why we write our own documentation that we send with each Superchip we ship to F-150 owners).

You need to remove the PCM from the vehicle, disassemble it by removing both the top & bottom covers, and completely reclean the connector - and you will also need to clean out the slot on the Superchip module, too. Do that with a clean, dry toothbrush - hold the module so the slot is pointing down, and then gently brush out the slot with the toothbrush. When complete, blow out the slot from both ends - don't use compressed air, just your own breath expelled quickly will do the trick. You have to get that conformal coating out of the slot that has transferred over from the PCM's connector, as well as completely recleaning the connector itself, to re-establish reliable operations.

And yes, you also need to tape the Superchip module to the PCM upon reinstallation, to prevent the Superchip from slowly backing off over time from speed bumps, railroad tracks, & the normal vibration from vehicle operations.

Then you'll be all set, & can enjoy your Superchip with no problems - good luck!
