Questions about better performance
Questions about better performance
Hi everyone, i'm very new to this site and also very new to owning a 2004 F150. I bought my f150 about a month and a half ago and so fari am very pleased with it, except for one thing... i can't drive it faster than 97 mph. Now dont get me wrong, i'm not a speed fiend, nor am i out to race my new baby i'm just out for alittle more speed. I'm in the military and i drive from phoenix to LA to see my family about once a month and was hoping to do it alittle faster.
Now the bad news, although i am a female i enjoy working on cars, but unfortunatly for me i'm on my own with this one. I've owned a 65' mustang that i restored myself, so i'm pretty good with older and less extensive engines. With my new truck i really dont know where to start, what to look for or anything else. I would love to work on my truck to get it running at its top performance but i dont know where to start. Any and all advice is well recieved. Thank you very much.

Hi Tiana,
Welcome to F150Online!
I see that you're a firefighter...
You have my thanks and appreciation.
If you are looking for performance, I recommend you check out the new Superchips MicroTuner (#1714), available from Troyer Performance. Mike Troyer is the main contributor to the Computer Chips forum and is a supporting vendor for F150Online. Troyer Performance also gives a nice discount to F150Online members when they purchase the MicroTuner (you must call them for the discount info and provide them with your member name).
They will also be coming out with a custom tuning MicroTuner for the 2004 F150s (new style). It will be the equivalent of the #9100 MicroTuner for the prior generation of F150s.
I purchased the PCM reflash custom tune (93 Octane) in April and have been very happy with it. I plan on purchasing the custom tune microtuner when it becomes available. Then e-fans are next on the wish list...
You'll be able to pick up a lot of information using the "Search" function, but don't hesitate to ask questions if you can't find aan answer. You should also check out the 2004 F150 forum and the General Discussion forum can be fun, too.
Good luck with your truck.

John,
What is the difference between the 1714 Microtuner and the "Custom Tune" setup? Do you only get a one time tune for $400? Is the Custom Tune superior to what the Microtuner can do?

I got my "custom tune" in April, before the 1714 MicroTuners were available. I had to send my PCM in for the re-flash. I guess you could call it a "one time" tune. I didn't want to wait until the microtuners came out for the 2004s. As I said in my prior post, I will likely buy a custom programmed microtuner when they are available. Based on what others have said about the 9100 vs. the 1715, the custom microtuner should provide slightly better perfromance improvements than the "generic" microtuner. I'm not sure what performance differences, if any, there are between the tune I have on my PCM and the 93 Octane tune on the 1714.
Good luck,
John
Hi Tiana,
Congratulations on your new 2004 F-150!
It's easy to improve the performance of your new truck, our #1714 Micro Tuner will do the trick very nicely - you will also get rid of that terribly slow throttle response, to, ad remove the top speed limiter as well. Here's a link to our web site where you can read up in detail - you'll want to read up on our Part# 1714 at this link: http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...chips%3BFoMoCo
You're going to see another 20 peak HP, but even more at the lower rpms, like 24+ at the rear wheels, just where the 2004 F-150 needs it. For top speed, that truck will easily hit 125+ MPH with just our tuning.
There are also plenty of additional performance enhancements available for your 2004 F-150, too - our web site has plenty of them, and of course, please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below if you'd like to go over any of this in more detail - we'll be happy to help.
Best of luck with your new 2004 F-150, & thanks for dropping by - we hope you'll hang out here with us in your spare time.
PS - Thanks from all of us for your service to your country!

I installed an AIRAID intake system and the Poweraide Throttle Body Spacer and noticed a difference right when I started my truck. The install was extremely simple and took me about 50 minutes to put in both pieces of equipment.
My 1714 Super Tuner is scheduled to arrive in 2 more days!
