Chipped Octane
OK so I read all the other chip questions and have all my answers except I want more info on the dual program mode. Do you get better performance from the lower octane mode?

Hey pja,
I believe that 93 octane is needed for the SuperChips brand. I am not sure of any other chips, but think that it would be the same. I am sure that someone will be along to confirm this shortly!
You would want to Mike Troyer about any Superchip questions that you have. i am quite sure that he can answer all of them.

For a standard Superchip, 92 Octane is the minimum. I have only used Amoco 93 and so far..the truck/Superchip love it.
The flip-chip, which allows you to use regular 87 Octane and optional 92 octane only provides the advertised HP/torque performance gains in the high octane mode. You will still be able to benefit from the improved shifting in the low octane mode though.

Hi pja,
Welcome to F-150 Online!
To answer your question, the engine tuning in the 87 octane program on Side 1 of the 2-program Superchip Flip Chip is not stock, the engine tuning is massaged thoroughly, but even so, the power gain on 87 is going to be very small, 3-5 horsepower or so. Thanks to the removal of transitional retards & delays and improvements made to the automatic transmission's shift characteristics, the vehicle is going to be more responsive and accelerate a bit quicker even on that 87 octane program. The 2 programs are normally made to be identical, with the exception of the octane level the engine is tuned for, that way you get all the other benefits no matter which program you're running on.
The full power gain comes only when running on the premium gas program, as the automakers didn't leave a significant amount of power "laying on the table", so to speak, in the computer's programming for 87 octane.
If you'd like to go over this in detail, examine the various options, etc., please feel free to give us a call & we'll be happy to go over all of that with you.
Best of luck with that stable of new vehicles you've got there; most of us would drool to have a new Screw *and* a new Corvette waiting for you.
And we hope you'll hang out here with us in your spare time, it's a great place to learn more about these vehicles.
