Post Superchips, vs Diablo results

As many of you recall I tried a Diablo chip, and posted why I though it was a better choice. After talking to Mike,(sometimes heated) I then tied a Superchip, and here are my thoughts on it.Superchip's shifts are much firmer, almost like a mild shift kit at 2500 rpm and up, alot better than the Diablo,...ALOT! The Diablo does shift better than stock, however the Superchip is more of a "performance" feel at mid to high throttle positions, down low(cruise/normal driving) they feel about the same, although the Superchip seems to force a downshift quicker with less pedal(I liked that too!)The more pedal you gave it the better the Superchip felt, while the Diablo sort of remained the same, there was improvement, but not as good as SC.Powerwise, they seem similar,Slightly better throttle response with the SC.I couldn't get consistant readings with my G-tech, I tuned a car with this(another horror story), and this method takes forever and a day, and I wasn't going to invest more time tring to find a 3 or 5 hp difference between the two, seat of the pants you woundn't feel 5 hp anyway.I didn't do any 1/4 mile passes either(w/G-Tech)but,I would say the Superchip would have had an advantage if any. My opinions/testing may not be scientific, but I can honestly say, I did feel a difference, and if you can feel a difference, that says something.I sent the Diablo back and will be getting a SC.The Superchip does require more effort to install, if you need to modifiy the EEC bracket, but if you'll do the chip, the bracket isn't really a big deal. OH, Mike and I have talked several times on the phone, now the only thing we disagree on is our favorite Winston Cup driver.LOL

Hi jstang,

We sure have come a long way in our discussions, haven't we? I'm very glad we've been able to discuss everything at length, and that you've had the opportunity to evaluate both products for comparison.

Thanks for your detailed post John, and for our conversations, as I've enjoyed speaking with you about a number of things!

Just as an aside, I'd like to thank you publicly for your work as a firefighter and your charity work. That says volumes to me about your character and the kind of person you are (not that it matters here or is anyone's business, but I felt compelled to mention it), being so willing to put your life on the line & to help others less fortunate. We feel the same way.

Oh, and good luck to your favorite WC driver!

Jstang - After the "heated" discussions it is good to see someone come back and update everyone and nice to hear that it worked out in the end. Usually these things get left as unresolved business which reflects badly on everyone.

Hi jstang,

That's funny, "well equipped & Superchipped", thanks for pointing it out, I probably wouldn't have picked up on that for awhile.

We're just glad you're happy John, & thanks for your posts!

Amen Ian, that was very considerate of John, and certainly goes a long way to helping encourage good spirits.

Question

I too am thinking about buying a chip for my truck and was leaning toward Diablo after your first post but now maybe I will try the superchip. I'm curious as to what program you received form superchip, according to them the file name is on the chip itself. Is this a standard program or a special one made for you? If I purchase a superchip I would want the same one you liked so much. I too am still undecided as to which to use and would appreciate a response to my question.

It was the standard performance program.

Superchip'd would be better than Superchip'ed.

At any rate, great post. Always good to hear about somebody's real world experience with two competing products. Your posting shows that you have a lot of integrity. Thanks!
