Be Careful of Superchips, dyno results actuals
Ok, ok, give it up Murfster, where are you getting the cool faces???
But seriously here, very interesting posts! I too agree with you Murfster, I am very happy with my chip! Mike/Superchips have to be doing something right to keep all us truck lovers happy, right? Just another comment from a "new guy" who is content with his purchase!!

My two cents worth:
I bought a Superchip from Mike T. and am absolutely delighted with its performance. Sorry but 8HP gains don't allow me to beat the pants off a Typhoon not once but TWICE now.
I admit to pulling the tail gate, spare tire and running a light fuel load. But, Hell, that's just common street racing sense. I don't drag because, in my insignifant opinion, that drag racing is kinda useless. Straight lines.....woo-hoo. Too bad all the roads I drive on have slight to severe corners, dips, banks and hairpins. If that's your thing, have at. I'm just more of a road racer.
That is all, carry on.

The feller that posted this thread didn't know what he was doing. You give some people a little knowledge and it's downright dangerous. Superchip does indeed add hp and torque. If he knew what he was doing his fancy smancy machine would have pick it up on the radar screen.
Trippn Like most everyone else, I cheated and stole the faces. I get mine at: http://www.handspun.ie/bf/em.htm
I got sick of the normal everday ebb emoticons and wanted to liven up my sig.
OK, I've answered your question, now answer mine: any recipes on Toast?? (this is a joke, in previous posts to Mike T., we discussed my lack of mechanical prowness around any type of power producing device .. i.e. an engine. Thereby, I refer to this as: burning toast...)

Ok Murfster, I owe you one! That is a neat site and would solve the mononety<sp?> of the everyday faces we see. As to burning toast, well I am a computer tech and that smell in my line of work....well not a good thing!! (Truth be told I have smelled that every familar "electric toast" smell before.) When this happens you kinda look around and say, "what's that smell" when you know damn well what it is!! My version of "burnt toast"

Can we assume then that you have a heavily modded late model Lightning? Or was the Typhoon you "beat the pants off" parked at the side of the road. Drag strip or twisties I'll put my (stock motor/turbo/injector) Typhoon against any Ford truck any day. I only use the Syclone (big turbo/injectors) for duty against Vipers, Z06s, and the like.
I'll be the first to admit that the GMC turbotrucks have much less "truck" utility than other trucks. But don't waste your time racing them...you'll lose.

YOUR RIGHT THAT PEOPLE HAVE HAD POSITIVE RESULTS WITH THE SUPER CHIP AND EVEN WITH DAN NOT RESETING HIS PUTER IT IS STILL A POSABLITY THAT HE GOT A DEFECTIVE CHIP HE SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEND IT BACK HAVE IT CHECKED AND IF ITS OK ITS HIS PROBLEM IF ITS DEFECTIVE THEN ITS YOUR PROBLEM .P.S. INGNORE THE SPELLING ITS LATE .

Hi G-money,
Bear with me a bit here, as I'll be responding to a couple of things, not just your comments.........
I think it's patently obvious from the results you're enjoying (along with virtually everyone else) that it's working for you. End of story, it's just that simple.
Dan's badly flawed "test" on that tired old Clayton dyno was far from accurate or representative, something that is clear to just about everyone using a Superchip in a 1999 5.4 F-150 like Dan's (or any other for that matter). And the flaws in Dan's methods used on that ancient dyno are something that only those of us who *do* have experience with chassis dyno's will likely even realize, and *that* is teh heart of this silly debacle. The vast majority of people you meet in life have never operated a chassis dyno, have never been involved in the purchase of a chassis dyno or it's installation, know nothing about the testing methods, etc., just like if you're not a dentist, you don't have expert detailed knowledge of dentistry, quite obviously.
So as a result, people who know nothing about dynos see a post like Dan's and think that because a dyno of some kind was involved, that is just *has* to be the gospel and automatically correct. They don't know that you cannot test in second gear, that it has to be done in 3rd gear in his automatic transmission vehicle so you have a 1:1 drive ratio and thus eliminate torque skew from ratio differential. They don't know that you have to re-set the computer. They don't know that a Clayton chassis dyno is an ancient piece of gear poorly suited for accurate measurement of incremental gains; that takes a very accurate and sophisticated chassis dyno, which is why Superchips spends the 6 figures it takes to get a chassis dyno that is actually capable of real accuracy in this kind of testing. Just like I know absolutely nothing about rocket science.
Unless you work in the field, you just don't have the knowledge, like any topic in life, no experience, no knowledge, and that certainly applies here.
It's obvious that the Superchip adds solid power & performance gains from the feedback that gets posted here by the very people installing and using the Superchip, which has clearly been very positive for the vast majority; anyone who has been here any length of time can clearly see that. These F-150 Online participants aren't so stupid that they feel they have to make up some imaginary gain and then post it here so they can feel good about themselves; they know exactly what they're feeling and the results they got, and *that's* why they post the positive results that they do, time after time after time after time, including numerous people with manual transmissions as well (nice try, Rand).
What could be clearer? Are we now supposed to believe that the Superchip works on all these other vehicles that these people, including yourself, have been telling us all about for years here, but Dan just happened to have one that it didn't work on? That he has some special 5.4 F-150 that the Superchip *cannot* work on by some kind of black magic? Not a chance. We're dealing with badly flawed methods on an ancient dyno, posted by someone with a clear agenda. If everyone could see the emails Dan has sent me from the beginning, it's blatently clear that he has had an agenda from Day 1 here. Yet if I dare post *anything* in this thread, my "detractors" try to turn it around so that now I'm the one making a personal attack against him, etc. Very cute tactics. Just plain stupid, I think, and incredibly insulting to the basic intelligence of so many people using and enjoying their Superchips.
It all gets down to one basic thing, and that is, how the vehicle runs with the Superchip. And as we have seen right here on F-150 Online for the past few years now, the vast majority who have installed the Superchip and then posted here have said they felt clear power gains and improved performance, including manual tranmission vehicles as well as automatics. We've seen dyno runs, countless 1/4 mile comparions, etc., etc. posted here over the years, certainly more than enough to give any reasonable person a fair idea of what they can expect from the Superchip, and an obvious and clear track record of positive results posted by those who use them.
If we haven't shown our clear credibility over the years here, and the clear track record of positive results posted by the owners of these Superchips, then nothing will *ever* change those minds.
Meanwhile, all of those who are enjoying their Superchips will keep right on enjoying them, and posting their impressions & positive results, including new people who have just joined us, seen this thread, and went ahead and installed the Superchip anyway, and called us back to let us know how happy they are with the results, and how silly all this has been.
G-money, the plain and simple fact is, your Superchip is clearly giving you noticeable power gains and improved performance, by your own words as an engineer, just as it's supposed to. I thank you for your post, and we wish you all the best.

Mike- Rather than respond to these unfalse claims to defend yourself, as you have had to do many times, how about not responding? Instead, just answer to general questions. I think the majority on this forum are aware of your honesty and ethics.Just a thought.

looks like everyone has stopped responding - FOUR YEARS AGO!
wow.
True- I did a search for something and decided to respond. I forgot to look at the date.Your right, it was four years ago! Oh well, sorry to kick a dead horse. Hope i don't ruffle any feathers.

i purchased a superchips flip chip in 2000 for my 4.6 and i was extremely dissapointed with the lack of performance gains from this product. granted i never threw my truck on a dyno, never datalogged or had the chipp re-burned specifically for my application. i bought this chip under the assumption (based on the product description & reviews) that it would provide immediate power gains w/ a plug-&-play installation. there are probably dozens of variables that contributed to why this chip did not seem to affect the performance of my truck, however for $350 i expected some noticeably HP or torque increase. i know now that a custom tune is the way to go but i felt like i got ripped off b/c the chip didn't deliver. i'm pretty sensative to the driveability characteristics of my truck so if there was a power increase with the Superchip, even if it was a small one, i would have detected it. i bought the unit from an online distributer and other then a slight change in the shifting patterns i could detect no noticeable change in power, even between the 87 octane mode and 91 octane mods which surprised me most of all. it also did not appear to improve (or harm) my fuel efficiency. even though the chip appeared to have little effect on my truck, i left it in for 4 years. i recently removed it and my truck actually feels like it is driving better now, like it is unrestricted or something. go figure.
now i'm not here to bash Superchips or conversely advocate their products, i am just sharing my one isolated experience. btw i DO have an XCal2 on order with MT and i am very optimistic that my truck will see considerable power improvements with his custom tuning so it will be interesting to see how the Xcal stacks up against the old Flip chip with the generic program
