Scanguage
Scanguage
I bought one of these about a week ago and find it a neat little gadget. It will monitor rpm's, volts, temp, mph, mpg, distance driven, time driving, gase used and a whole lot more.
Check it out at

One nice thing about this Scanguage is it also reads any check engine light codes and you can reset the codes with the push of a button.
The $99.95 is their intro price. Later it goes to $129.95.

I saw TEllenberger's earlier post in the engines forum. I checked out the Scanguage site. I bought it. I've wanted an RPM guage for some time and NEEDED a TEMP guage to replace the "fake" guage that came from the factory. I've had it installed for four days now, and it is NOT too good to be true. I get realtime Temps as reported to the ECU. Same for RPM.
Plus IAT, Ignition Timing, %Engine Load, MPG , and more. Pick any four you want displayed. Yes it's also a DTC reader too.
Installation is a breeze and the interface is "user friendly". The documentation is thin, however. It mentions sending commands to the ECM but doesn't explain this feature very well. The same with the "FRZD" which will display the PIDs for a DTC (if captured). I'm not sure what this means and it is not explained in the documentation. I would appreciate anyones input on these subjects.
TIA,
Bill

I'm a little confussed about that "Not too good to be true" does that mean your not totally happy.
I was thinking about one also. Does it plug into the data port by the drivers knee and remain there, or does it insert in line with the large cable harness going to the PCM from all of the sensors and vehicle wiring?
Did you order on line, or call them. I tried to order on line and got an error from there web page! Havn't had the time to call them, and maybe that's "good" if this thing is not everything that it claims to be.
Thanks for your input the guestions I've just asked!

It plugs in to the OBD II port by your knee when seated in the drivers seat.
Yes; you order by calling them. The entire order process took less than ten minutes and since I live in Tucson and the company is in Mesa I received the Scanguage by UPS the next day.
It can be removed or left in place. The choice is yours. It can also be used on multiple vehicles.
I also own a code reader but this is much more and also reads the codes.

triumphman,
I am very happy with the Scanguage. I got what I expected and more.
The "not too good to be true" statement was a response to the post that Crash! wrote. I can understand his skepticism.
To anyone who has a laptop and AutoTap or Auto X-Ray software this may seem to be a "toy". But for me it is more than adequate.
" Does it plug into the data port by the drivers knee and remain there.." YES. I ordered it online. Didn't have any trouble.

I should also mention that though I find it functional, it ain't the "prettiest" thing I've ever added to my truck.

thanks guys!
Just got off the phone with the people in AZ and it's on the way!
I just sold my Superchip 1715 to my son and got a SCT6600 and really hated to loose the code reader. This like you said will take care of that, also wanted the mpg and trip totals, so it can stay hooked-up in the console till I want to look at it, I agree it's not the coolest thing to look at all the time, but does do neat things.
Thanks again!

T Ellenberger,
Question? I see your running a SuperChips with your Scanguage.
Does it read open or closed loop with the custom program in the circiut.
I have a SCT 6600 now and if I run on any program other than stock the Scanguage never shows that the motor goes to closed loop.
Also I assume these fords don't report to the PCM, manifold pressure or fuel pressure as these don't read out on the Scanguage display, there blank.
Sure do like the operation of the Scanguage, neat little device.

I get both open and closed loop readings depending on the temperature of the engine. I guess that is what is supposed to happen since the 02 sensors are picking up the temperature; if I understand correctly.
You are correct about the manifold pressure. Mine is blank also.
However, it does read intake air temperature so if someone was trying to make up a cold air intake that might help develop a horsepower rise.

T Ellenberger,
I talked to Anita at Troyer this morning, and it looks like the problem with my Open Loop is a glich in the custom programming that they are fixing for me. (Great people there)
It's amazing how the outside air more than doubles in temp. when the truck is stationary or moving very slowly, 180 or 200 degrees from under the hood as appossed to 80 degrees outside.
I think Scanguage is a must for all of us tech'y heads that need to know everything that we will proably never use, "but then!!!!!!!!!!???????? that's the way I am.
Have a good one.
Gene
PS It was the Scanguage that alerted me to the Loop problem showing open loop, then after the second time I started the truck the pcm sent a SES light which I was able to read (with the Scanguage of coarse) P1132 and P1152 both upstream O2 sensors running rich.
It proably saved me it's cost right there.

Just got back from a 400 mile round trip. Long Island to Saratoga Springs NY.(you know, to give my annual "donation" to the Jockey & Pony retirement fund)
Anyway, I'm cruisin' along @70+ MPH when I feel a little hesitation just for a second or two. Then, seconds later, a CEL. (only the 2nd since I've owned the truck) I'm thinkn' "this could be trouble". But I hit a few buttons on the Scanguage (on the fly) and it's only a PO442. Loose gas cap. I erase the code (also as I'm driving). I drive another 90 miles home no probs and no additional CEL.
Love the Scanguage! Thanks T Ellenberger.

I got my scanguage today... a very cool tool. However the box it is housed in has a very dated look (reminds me of a 1970's clockradio
. I would like mount it to windsheild pillar. I have a friend that may be able to mod and produce a pillar guage mount for it, and dress up the face. I'll keep you posted.
