Question Why no pricing info?

Why is it that price isn't to be discussed regarding "the chip"?

There are a lot of the other aftermarket products on this site where price is discussed. There's even threads about all the different plans you can buy the trucks under with "I got mine at X over/under invoice".

It just seems that one of benefits of the site is to help find the best prices to go with the mods you decide to make.

Tell ya the truth I have no idea why we talk about pricing on everything else but the chips. Maybe the webmaster has a rule with sponsors or something? I'd sure like to compare the superchips and the diablo chip. I am probably making someone mad but its my truck.

I remember the webmaster posting regarding this. They basically don't want the people taking away potential business from the web store. They sell the Superchip, and we could possibly be "under cutting" them by telling them where else to go buy a cheaper Superchip. Discussing the price of the Diablo chip is nothing because the online store doesn't carry the diablo chip. Therefore there would be no harm to the stores profit. At least that was my interpretation of the post.

That's lame...

I appreciate the site and when their store has the lowest price and/or best service I will buy from them, like in the case of FIPK's.

However, to block discussion regarding price of something they sell (apparently at higher prices) is un-American.

I don't think this on site store sells the superchip, but I have purchased items from them and they are usually very competetive. I even had to return something one time and had no hassels.

Others may disagree but I for one hope that price continues to be discussed throughout the site. I believe it is in the best interest of the F-series owners and fits with the purpose "to exchange relevant information about our beloved Ford trucks, etc."

I appreciate the site for giving us that opportunity, the job that Steve Eppinger does keeping it running and the support the vendors provide to the site.

Also, I hope vendors remember that without customers, what's their point?

Amen! This is a wonderful site, and Steve (et.al) are doing EXCELLENT work! But who is the customer here? This site generates more than traffic. It generates and perpetuates interest. My "Wish List" has increased dramatically based on what I've learned on this site. When I'm in the market for something, I check this site FIRST....And I've purchased from the Online store. But, Mike, you're in biz to make a reasonable and fair profit. To insinuate this site isn't generating cash for it's producers is lame!....Not with "13 million hits per month". I don't know statistically how many dollars that translates into for this site, but it's foolishness to believe it means "no profit". The money to host this site comes from somewhere.......A portion of it -- maybe even a good portion -- comes from us. Like SuperCrewMark, I will continue to mention price, and other interesting websites, in my posts if I think it's relevant. I believe this site thrives BECAUSE of this free-flow of information!

Mike, that is pretty sorry to insinuate we users are parasites and do not contribute anything to help this site stay live. It is just you and the webmaster, which I owe A LOT to and try and support, (online store etc). You act like we are a bunch of ungrateful people who you as a sponsor are supporting with your own time and money and not receiving anything in return. Of course I have taken a lot from this site but your post set me off a bit. Without all of *us, there would be no sponsors willing to sponsor this site.

Talking

Isn't it funny how misunderstandings grow legs and just take off running?

Mike, you always answer the question correctly but, sometimes I think you give people too much credit for seeiing it.

SuperCrewMark, Elktagaz and Sundog7, here is the deal;
The webmaster wants the message boards to be used for the exchange of info but, NO SELLING.
Mike only does what is expected of him. He has banner ads, he has a link in his sig, he answers queries about his product but, he does not say,
"Get your chip, while they're hot only $999.99!"
That would be selling.

If Bubba97Ford4Life says,
"I got my bug shield at Walmart for $29.99"
That is NOT selling.

If Chevies_ain't_me says,
"I got my '01 SD Dualie for $1200 under invoice".
That is NOT selling.

What Mike has always done when someone posts here about a chip purchase/price/etc... is say,
"Please contact me/call me and I'll be at your service, etc..."

When they are persistent for an immediate online answer, he has responded,
"It would not be appropiate to respond here, please contact me off line".

Now that is pretty much what Mike was saying in his first paragraph.

Peace.
(and love, if you happen to be of the opposite sex)

Raoul,

I agree 100% with the NO SELLING issue. If a vendor wants to sell they should do like Mike/Superchips and support the site by purchasing advertising. No argument there.

I also agree with the "Bubba97Ford4Life" and "Chevies_ain't_me" examples. That's what I say needs to continue, including regarding chips. But that is not what I got from Mike's first paragraph. Mike, if that is what you are advocating, then we are on the same page.

Now, if I could just get the truck so I could get moving on the mods...

Hi SuperCrewMark & everyone else,

The reason for this, as we understand it, is not to protect anybody, it's quite simply just to keep the boards free of that kind of content, and it doesn't just apply to chips or to any other one particular product, it's to keep the message boards from getting out of hand, that's all.

Steve Eppinger (F-150 Online's Webmaster) doesn't have the time to monitor every single post in every section every day, he has to work for a living like everyone else, so you're always going to see a few of those kinds of posts here and there. I think he does a great job overall of trying to keep these message boards focused on the purpose of this web site, to exchange relevant information about our beloved Ford trucks, etc.

The prices of the products in the Online Store here are no secret, all you have to do is enter the store and you'll see them, same with our online ordering system here for the Superchip. We're simply trying to abide by the policies we agreed to when we accepted our agreement here, which is the same agreement everyone has to accept to be able to register to post on these message boards.

When people think about who they buy their products from, one thing that is important to remember is that it is us sponsors who provide the funds that keep this web site available for you to be able to use & enjoy, completely free of charge. This is a *huge* web site, with an incredible amout of traffic, with more than 100,000 different people coming here every month, and the last time I looked over a year ago at the stats,, getting something like 13 million "hits" per month! It requires a *lot* of money just to host it, forget about it actually paying Steve Eppinger anything for all of his sacrifices, time, effort money, etc. that he has to put into this to create & maintain this web site. All of that comes from us sponsors, and without us, at this site's level of activity, there would be no F-150 Online.

Our bests to all,
