Question Computer Chip

Hey Everybody I'm new to this Website. I recently found out about it. I have a Black '97 F-150 extended cab with the 4.6 litre with the tow package and 3.55 gears. I bought it new in April '96 and it now has 47,000 miles on it. It's been modified a little bit in that it has a 4/6 drop with rear airbags, 17 inch BBS wheels, Gibson Super Truck catback system, K&N drop in filter and flush fitting tonneau cover. I also have a B&M shift improver that I haven't connected yet. I've said all that to get to this. I'll be towing a 24 foot enclosed trailer with a 2000 pound race car inside. I'm interested in a Super Chip but I don't where to find the computer code and how will it work with modifications I've already made?

JGFLGUY,

Welcome to the boards! I have been a member for a little over a month know and can attest to the knowledge and helpfulness that the members of this board have. It is a great place.

To answer your question, your computer code is located on the inside panel of your passenger door -- you will see a 4 digit code on a sticker.

The person you want to contact is Mike Troyer (who is awesome) -- his information in below.

Good Luck

Hi JGFLGUY,

Welcome to F-150 Online!

As Cyclone mentioned, to locate your computer code, go to the passenger side of your vehicle, and open the front door; look in the front part of the door frame, in the area of the door hinges, and there you will find a sticker with 3 letters and 1 number on it, and that is your computer code.

The mods you have now, which as far as the powertrain is concerned are the K&N air filter and the Gibson exhaust, will work just fine with the Superchip, you won't need any custom programming done for them. Custom programming is generally only needed in these F-150's when you do major mechanical mods, like supercharging, nitrous oxide, ported cylinder heads, camshaft changes, etc., also if you change the mass airflow meter, we'll need to compensate for that. And, the Superhcip is a flash design, so if you ever do decide to make major changes later on, you can always have your Superchip updated with a new custom program, thanks to it's "flash" design.

Good luck, and let us know if you have any trouble locating your code!

Thanks Mike,
I'm a little disappointed. When I went home for lunch I looked for the computer code and found that the last digit had been worn away. The only thing left were the three digits IMP so I guess I'll have to pull the kick panel off to get the code off of the computer.
