Just installed "Flipchip"
Hi Guys. First time post for me. Have read most all posts, i must say it sure has been fun for me, all the pros & cons. There are some good ones. HA
Now dont holler, i just wanted to pass this on regarding the flipchip install on my 99 F250LD SC 4X4 4.6L 3.73 Axle.
Finally decided to go for it. Drive solo 90% of time, 10% towing my travel trailer. Ordered the superchip "flipchip" #1-87 oct. #2-92 oct. Only mods. before flipchip--mean streak cat.back exhaust--K&N drop in filter.
Somewhat better throtle response, strickly seat of the pants, because no dyno. available here for my truck.
My experience with Mike Troyer and also the mfg. Superchip Inc. were top rate. Such a pleasure to work with professionals.
Anyhow, did get a "NO START" on my first install. Didnt have a good feeling, cause i took my time cleaning the J3 terminal plus other install tips, second attempt NO START.
I then called Mike T.
Was aware of the possible "NO START" due to a possible jumper connection on the computer that required some solder.
I decided to send my computer and flip chip straight to the mfg. Mike almost immediately got me a repair order. I overnighted it to Florida on Wed. got it back Fri. The 48 hr.(approx) downtime, was realistic for me. Cost me $35.00, Yeah i know, but didnt wanna screw up my ECU, Mike was right, Superchips made it good. I had the jumper connection problem, they fixed it, mailed it back NO CHG
Installed it, just before i turned the ign.key to start, i did see dash light up and mileage appear, yeah right on, i knew it was gonna start, yes, it did. HA Whew!!!
Anyway guys, have to burn off rest of 87 oct. Shifting somewhat different. Will be trying the 92 oct. soon. so, if you think its ok, hey my truck looks kinda like a F150 just alittle heavier duty, maybe i could post my findings later.
Thank guy, Old timer

Hi Old Timer,
Great post!
You do have a bit of a rare configuration, meaning a heavy F-250 with the 4.6 motor, we don't see very many of those. I'm glad you let us handle this jumper issue for you; some are comfortable dropping that dot of solder on the jumper to close it, as they have experience soldering, but many people don't, so for that reason, we arrange for Superchips to do that work and pick up the cost for it and the return overnight shipping of your computer.
As we discussed earlier, when running on the 87 octane program, your power gain is going to be very small, no more than 2-5 hp at best, but you will have all the other benefits, improved shifting, etc. Once you run that regular out and fill up with premium and flip the switch, it will take 50 miles or so of driving for the additional power to start coming in, and it will come in gradually as you accumulate those miles.
If you ever want to "test" the exact back-to-back difference in those 2 programs, you'll want to flip the switch and then do the procedure to disconnect the battery and drain residual voltage as we discuss in our additional Performance Products documentation that came with your Superchip, so the conmputer's memory is completely cleared and you feel more of that difference right away. This is not necessary in normal operations of course, as normally you just change fuel, flip the switch and drive, it's just a technique to make the change happen quicker for testing, etc.
Have fun & thanks for your post,
