Thumbs up Chip Installation-f-350

Okay, ordered a chip last Friday from Mike, recieved it Tuesday. I had to run out a tank of trash gas so just put it in today. I have a 2001 f-350,5.4, 4:10 rear, with 800 miles on it. I had a dodge ram 5.9 previously, and in all honesty this truck is a REAL dog performance wise compared to that one. What was I thinking, in not getting the v-10. Sooooo I ordered a chip. f-350's with this engine the computer is on the left kick panel, and comes incased in a black case that screws to the bracket. After unscrewing that case and wiring harness,(you need 2 extra joints in your elbow to get to the 10mm screw on the firewall) the case and computer would not come out, a call to Mike(thank you very much) you have to gently use a long screwdriver and pry to the right to get it loose. Used the edge of a credit card to scrap off the clear goop on the connection, seemed to work well. Boy, it doesn't take much to start to see copper on the terminals. Put it back in but because the superchip sits on the back of the computer housing and the black case slides on the housing, and over the chip, I can't screw the case back on, so I taped it to the bracket that I should of screwed it to. It should be fine. Okay, started right up, disconnected the battery again, waited 10 minutes(cleaned my wheels while it waited) hooked up the battery and away I went. What the chip did is bring this truck up to the performance level of my 96 Ram, which was acceptable. I had 4 gallons of regular gas still in the tank, so the next fill-up I should feel it a little more. Now for an Airaid, Mike you sell those for my truck?lol

Hi jimbos43,

Thanks for your post!

One thing I wanted to point out is that as you mentioned, due to the additional length of the Superchip on the back of the computer (about 1/4" or so), sometimes the black plastic shroud that covers the computers in the Super Duty trucks (only!) will not fit back on far enough to allow you to bolt it down with the pair of 7mm bolts that retain that shroud. This varies, sometimes this is an issue and sometimes it's not. We suggest using a pair of black strip ties to replace those 7 mm bolt-head screws that retain the black plastic shroud, as that will give you the additional clearance needed so you can put that shroud back in place correctly.

We normally send those out with every Superchip for Super Duty trucks, so I wonder if you may not have gotten them perhaps, they are pretty small. If you didn't, we'll be happy to send you a pair, or if you prefer, you can find them at just about any auto supply place, KMart, WalMart, etc. Just let us know if you'd like us to send them, shoot us a quick email & we'll be happy to.

And you're right, you do not have to scrape hard to get down to the copper, which is why we advise going slowly and lightly.

Sounds like everything is OK now, you sure got it done very quickly after you called us, your post was up pretty quick after that, wow!

Have fun,

After I talked to you, it took me about 45 minutes to finish up. Just took it for a 10 mile ride, so thank why I was on here so fast, will get out later to try it again. That's a good idea about the strip ties,I don't think there was any in the box, i'm assuming it's what I think are wire wraps, I have some laying around I think.
